._._z
Jeff Meremelstein talks about the art of street photography and his book, "No Title Here" in an hour-long August '03 radio interview. http://wfmu.org/listen.ram?show=8564 He discusses differences in approach and technique, as well as streetphoto classes he took and later taught at ICP. He mentions street photographers who influenced him (the usual suspects), and discusses various components of street photography (surrealism, humor, social commentary, making something interesting out of the ordinary). He says he lacks confidence every time he puts a roll of film in a camera. He talks about inconspicuousness and available-light photography verus the unique, "razor-sharp" look of (and "neurotic" energy in photos using) a strobe. A good listen. andy_laycock
I have his book 'Sidewalk' and the picture on the cover says it all. Even though he may have been influenced by the usual suspects he has a style all of his own, including the use of colour and widely separate layers. I'd like to know more about him. Thanks for the tip.

markskelly
Thanks for the link! It's always interesting to hear a photographer speak about their work. I get tired of alway reading about photography. It's good to hear the human voice sometimes.

erin_____grasshopper__rice
Thanks Bailey! It's nice to get information like that, especially as I don't get exposed to the outside world of photography as much as I like to. And as much as I relish the idea of spending a whole day walking around downtown shooting people, I'm kind of terrified of actually doing it. Nice to live through someone elses work til I get the proverbial balls to go do it myself.
