ahmad_hosni
I was wondering if the newer rubber ring versions of pentax 67 lenses have different coating from the older metal ring ones. I'm talking specifically about the 90mm and the 135mm macro lenses. thanks
steve_rasmussen
The coating designations have more to do with whether the lens says SMC rather than if the lens is metal or rubber ring. SMC is their 7 layer coating. If the lens says Super-Takumar, it is not SMC and is a two or three layer coating(to the best of my knowledge). Pentax does not elaborate whether all lens elements on their SMC lenses are 7 layer coated. Some low index (ED)elements would do just fine with a single coat, while high index elements would require all 7 layers.
ahmad_hosni
But the rubber ring was introduced later. I wonder if it was accompanied by different coating technology? Also I noted that KEH describe some lenses as SMC and others as SMC "late". (the 90mm for example). What is the difference? regards,Ahmad Hosni
steve_rasmussen
KEH was probably going by the lens serial number when they said SMC vs SMC late. There is no difference in the 90mm Pentax coating that I have ever seen. The 90mm Takumar is a different lens, in that it is the leaf shutter 90. Yes, the metal barrels were first but were not necessarily an indication of a change in coating. The 150mm is an example. The first 150s were Super-Takumar with a lesser coating and the later 150s were SMC. Both versions had metal barrels.
gert_jan_bollen
Hi Ahmad, I think Pentax still works on their multicoating so through the years there is a difference even when it says SMC.But i wondere if its is noticible in the print. Kind regards Gert Jan
