alex_tudor
I've settled nicely on using Kodak's PORTRA 400UC for a 400 ISO print film. And when I want less saturation I use Fuji NPH 400. Now I'm having a hard time finding lower (100/160) speed films that are similar in characteristics but have finer grain and fuller color for large prints. I've tried PORTRA 160VC and NC and don't like either really. Fuji NPC 160 is OK and NPS so,so - a bit bland. What would you guys think would be good lower ISO films to match the 400UC and the 400NPH? keith_van_hulle1
Are you going for something with more saturation? Depending on how much saturation you want, maybe Agfa Ultra 100 or Kodak Gold 100. And then Fuji Reala to tone things down a bit?
rich815
I am also a big new fan of 400UC. I've used Kodak Gold 100 for a while and it has similar characteristics. But to be honest I find the improved grain of the 400UC to be so close to most of the "older" 100 speed color negative films that I see little difference now and really appreciate the extra 2 stops. And 400UC scans a bit easier than Gold 100. Only big issue left is price with Gold 100 bought "imported" from B&H is like $1.79 a roll. Darn cheap! david_blackburn1
you probably want to read through the new film and ... forum. im sure there is some useful information there. reala (fuji superia reala in 35mm) is a wonderful 100 speed print film, though. i have yet to try portra UC, so i cant compare (i dont shoot much print film). ted_marcus1
Why do you need a 100-speed film? If it's large prints you're after, try making some from Portra 400UC or NPH. I suspect you'll be quite happy with them.
robert goldstein
As wonderful as Portra 400UC is, it is still no match for Reala in terms of grain. And Reala's low contrast makes it much more suitable for bright, sunny conditions. It is still the undisputed champion of image quality amongst the color print films. alaghi
Everybody up are correct, reala is the best; agfa ultra 100 for HIGH saturation, kodak gold 100 near portra UC. Superia 100 has much contrast, avoid it. I like very much AGFA Optima II 100, it is very near reala (better colors I think) and cheaper than reala.<br> Happy shooting! 25asa
Anyone try using Konica Impressa 50? Its one speed slower then 100, but its grain quality is better then Reala and its the closest film in sharpness and grain size to the old Ektar 25/ Royal Gold 25. Usually when I shoot 100 speed films theres enough light to shoot on 50 ASA, so I think its worth a look.
