Bluish cast to my photographs.

I have recently taken portrait shots with Fuji NPS 160 rated as such.

The film was processed by a color lab but to my surprise, most of the

photos had a bluish cast, giving them a very cold look. I compared my

prints immediately and found some to be properly exposed while many

others had a bluish cast even though the outdoor lighting conditions

were the same. I had relied on aperture priority but the metering had

been consistent. The prints were printed on Kodak Royal Paper. I

checked the NPS 160 data sheet and I found no filter correction was

required (the pics were taken in the late afternoon/early evening

with ample sunlight). My question is, is it my fault or the lab's.

What can I do to prevent this? Appreciate any help on this matter.

Filter? Fill-flash? If you can, try a Tiffen 812 filter to cut the blue color the film picked up from the sky (your eyes can't see the effect, but the film can.) Also, do you have a flash? The camera-and-flash combination usually works good as fill-flash for outdoor photography.

(Using a 81A filter can't be a downside either.)

And you might try to have the lab correct the color a bit by reprinting your negatives and see if the 'blue' can be reduced.

This is clearly the labs fault being NPS is a professional print film not prone to color casts.

Using a warming a filter wouldn't have helped since the lab would likely have corrected it out. Choose a nice looking print, and have the lab match the rest of them to the reference print.

This is a typical reason I don't recommend the use of NPS with amatuer labs. The operators rarely see NPS and hence have no idea what channel to print it on, so they guess.
