Brian? Do you favour tequila or single malt scotch? Let me know which flavour of tranquilization suits, I will send you something for the "information" piling up in this thread.

regards

Bill

looks good to me, need for ads dead obvious, internet entitlement attitude over-ripe as usual....

Brian, are there plans to update the Admin view of threads with the new format? The placement of the responder's name being different between the two views might contribute to mistaking one response from another in the admin view.

Brian: How much longer are you going to allow the freeloaders to drag the site down? On average the subscribers are more helpful, more knowledgable and less confrontational. Give the freeloaders the ability to make 1 post per day, no questions, and no gallery space.

The photo.net layout seems to be getting increasing cluttered. Perhaps a return to the old style (circa 1999)for subscribers could be made.

The only thing that bothers me is the aesthetic or the choice of the font size as well as "bold". The subject is now way overly too big, and the name/time line, where the first letter is in bold font as well as the time (hour) in bold just doesn't make sense. This has nothing to do with having ads on the right side of the page, it is about ease of reading.

It is very confusing right now and it could easily be changed, and should be changed.

I've read the messages in this thread tonight with true amazement. I can't believe that ADULTS are whining about ads for NON-CONTRIBUTORS! Web sites ARE NOT FREE to run. They cost money. They cost time. They absorb people's brainpower, hardware, bandwidth, etc. This web community is pretty unique, and I've been amazed that it's been as free for as long as it has. If you don't want to see the ads, contribute, otherwise deal with it. If you don't like the format, suggest a change, but your opinion certainly isn't the only one and may be in the minority of the group that makes design decisions.

As much as some people use this forum, and obviously enjoy it, I can't believe that $25 is beyond anyones means. I for one, was happy to pony up the cash. Geeez, many of you have 10's of thousands of dollars of photo equipment. $25?! What am I missing?

For the record, I'm not adverse to banners or vertical ads for this site (even though I don't see them), but if I see those annoying overlay, flash ads, I'm demanding my $25 back.

Brian, here is a screen shot of what I see. I guess you have adjusted the font size of the "Subject" line and so now it's fine. But the rest of the font problem I think you can see from the uploaded picture. Before you made the adjustment, the font size of the subject was actually bigger than the size you choose for "Answer". Please take a look.

I am using IE6.0 with updates.<div>006Fnu-14896984.jpg.d0df388334cdc7b5ac795ad6c2d1488f.jpg</div>

I believe a picture by a poster should not be above the name of that poster. The pic should be after the message body. It makes one especially a newbie look twice before deciding who the pic belongs to.

But then, it makes more sense to revert to the old format where the pic is above the message and the name comes at the end.

Hope this is not a rant. It is a true concern.

trav, it may not be a rant, but your observation is not accurate.

in the old format the pic was always above the "response" and the caption was obviously immediately below the photo. the only change in the new format (other than the font) is that the poster's name is above instead of below the text. the posts are separated by = .

Oh sorry, I got it wrong. Thx Tom.

Now I see we only have the name in between the pic and the message, which is my primary concern wrt visibility and continuance.

Im sorry, yes the pic has always been above the text message.

;) ok let's see what the moderators feel about it.

James, it used to be:

Pic from A

Message from A

A's name

B's message..etc

------------------------

Now,

Pic from B

B's name

Message from B

A's name

--------------

It's ok if you scroll it slowly and watch where the small greyish "=" separator is .

I guess we could get use to it sooner though. But it doesn'e make sense IMO to have a pic above the poster's name as this would somehow mean the pic was somebody else's.

just my 2 cents anyway.

Ok for the last time, what I really want to say is:

It's visually confusing to have the poster's name IN BETWEEN his posted pic and his message. This looks fine in a NWs thread where no messages were written.

But if one combine pics and texts, then the names get sandwiched between the 2 and in a long list, it's quite straining to the eyes.

ok. I'll stop ;)
