You sure do have a way with portraits, as well as with other areas. I
think the composition of this one is very strong, and you've well
portrayed her beauty. She looks kind of worried about something,
doesn't she? Or thinking off into the distance. I can take or leave
the added grain effect. I'm sure not distracted by it, so that must
mean it combines well within the gestalt of the photograph. I'm not
sure what to think about the saturated orangish hue. I like it in her
hair, but not in her face so much. Impressive photograph.

I personally haven't received any mail like that. While nothing is
certain, I don't suspect it's LUSENET or the greenspun.com domain.
But it's definitely time to make sure everyone's anti-virus software
is up-to-date. Virus definition files are changing frequently, and
the Nimda.E virus is going around like crazy right now.

I don't have much experience with the Kodachrome series, but it seems
like a majority of the really cool macro shots I've seen lately in
print are made with Kodachrome 25 or 64. I would use more if my local
pro lab could process it.

If I had the money, I'd buy two more of them. I've been using my Noct
for almost a year. It's heavy, it's cumbersome, it's a royal pain to
keep with you, especially if you like to keep your camera under a
coat. But I love my Noct. I think it has something to do with the
fact that I know, deep down, that I may never fully come to realize
its potential. It's the most exotic lens you can buy for a 35mm
rangefinder camera. It's exotic as an object in and of itself, let
alone being a fine piece of glass. I have probably twenty pieces of
Leica or Leitz glass. If the house was burning down and I could only
grab one lens to go with me, it would be my Nocitlux.

The best test is with a gray card and slide film. Use consistent
lighting and make a series of tests using a range of shutter speeds.
But it does sound like your meter may be off.

I definitely wanted to capture the two people walking in front of the
car, but it was only by chance that I caught the one person right in
the middle of the headlights.

This is hilarious! Very funny. One altnative view point would be
squarely from the side and level with his profile, the rear and front
passenger windows filling the frame.

Minox IIIs (8x11mm), Tmax 100. Just a fun shot.

I received over 20 emails from participants asking what was up. I don't know what happened, but I felt inadequate in trying to let you all know that it was indeed down and to keep trying. The entire domain including all the LUSENET Q&A forums was unavailable.<p>
In the future, if our forum seems unavailable, please check <a href="http://www.alaska.net/~rowlett/leicaforum.htm">http://www.alaska.net/~rowlett/leicaforum.htm</a>, which is linked from my home page, for any relevant information. I don't have much control over the server or even the LUSENET software that runs our forum, but I will post at the top of that page anything I know about the situation. I sure hope we still have all our participants! And welcome back!

As far as "clothed" women and being just as sensual, sexual, I think
<a href="http://www.photo.net/photo/402967">this
photograph by Lou Verruto</a> is a stunning example.<p>
And <a href="http://www.photo.net/photo/399535">this
photograph by Filipe Silva</a> is another good example.
-
Yikes! Extreeeeemely three-dimensional! :-) Beautiful portrait.
-
I'm convinced. I'll have two, please.<p>
A large portion of our society just stops at the "sexual" aspect and
never pregresses beyond and into the "art" aspect which takes some
higher thinking. If everyone was a physician, we'd have a lot more
appreciation of the Nude as art instead of the Nude as just sexual.

I say, OFF with you, </b> OFF with Bold!

Thanks for the encouragement, David. I have to thoroughly agree with
you regarding Mike's
and Jeff's (and others') work which I believe far surpasses mine (but
that's OK cuz I'm only getting better by learning from you all). The
one thing that I really admire about Mike's and Jeff's work is that
their work always seems to have a signature. You can always tell that
a photograph is a "Dixon" or a "Spirer!" I think that "edge" you're
talking about comes from thinking outside the box. Experiment first
and don't let initial failures stop you.

Rats! </b> OFF with the bold.

<b>Portage Glacier, Alaska<b><p>

We're at the Portage Glacier Oservation area of the visitor's center, and that's my dad intensely examining the informational display. In the background is Portage Lake with a small ice "berglet" being a bus-sized hunk of the glacier that calves off and floats around.

My contribution to try to keep the forum going!

I hear that! I've been having a hard time taking pictures lately.
Don't know what it is. But at least I have access now to a scanner
(again. finally.) so I actually "could" be posting some more here
pretty soon.
-
Very interesting "motion" effect. I like the colors, too. I see some
of the motion effect in some Noct photos, too. Kind of like a "swirl"
action. Weird. Lately I've been using TMX-100 instead of the 400
just so I can open up more in daylight. One of these days I'll try to
get some posted.

Group, if you have images posted on the photo.net service, they are temporarily unavailable to us here because photo.net server is being changed. What this means is that images referenced here will not show up. I'm not sure how long the changeover process will take. It may be later today. FYI.

The subject is well composed and the print is well executed, but I
don't get much from this picture. I know I am inadequate in saying
why, but here goes: The subject and the action and the background and
the composition and the emotion of being "discerning" all feel
ordinary to me, to the extent of blandness. The photograph moves me
toward impatience because I feel like I'm with this person and I want
her to stop looking and continue walking with me. This seems to
happen a lot with me and the boss lady. Thank you for posting. The
forum is still alive!!

This is neat! Excellent portrait of a very nice looking and
photogenic couple. It's sure a pleasure to see photography of people
smiling.
