This is very cool and dreamlike. Plus great tones.

Thank you for the very kind words, Tony! It's hugely appreciated.

If you're going to steal, steal from the best. I'm temporarily working
on this floor of an office building, and every time I get off the elevator,
I think: Kubrick. Though he probably would have lit it with brilliant
lights.

I posted a vertical I took of this scene, but I've come to appreciate
the horizontal more. The morning was kind of fantastic, that thick
winter fog where objects appear and disappear. Simply beautiful to
shoot in. (Not much fun to drive in, though.)

A wonderfully realized photograph. Cheers.

Wow. I've been away from Photo.net for so long that I had to look up
how to submit a photo for a critique. (I've been busy.) It's good to be
back.
As to the picture, photographing peeling posters to create collage-
like images certainly isn't a new idea (it's kind of art school stuff), but
we had some beautiful late afternoon autumn light awhile back, and
these images just started leaping out at me. We have tons of poster-
covered poles and walls in Portland, and it seems like an intriguing
project that will change with the season. So, for what it's worth,
here's autumn.

Thank you, Paul! -- S

A picture that kind of made itself when I turned on the studio light. Shot
with a Canon G10.
Thanks,

Thanks for the comments...much appreciated The images are painted on the walls of a house in Pompeii, Italy, and date back to around 79 AD, when the city was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and buried in 20 feet of ash, thus preserving it. A beautiful, eerie site.

Part of my series on doors and windows into the past, shot in Pompeii.

From a recent visit to Pompeii, Italy, I was struck by the framing of
doors and windows, which seemed to lead one into an image. Given
the immense age of the site, it provided a sort of doorway into the past.
This was shot in mid-morning, hazy light, which afforded nice color and
detail. I'm thinking of making this into a series (hoping I have enough
images as I can't quickly go back there and shoot more). I'd love to hear
what folks think of the image and the potential of similar images to
make a show.
Thanks,
Steve

A 13th Century Roman church dedicated to burial of the poor.

I just returned from two weeks in Italy, which is a photographer's
paradise. There's a lot of work for me to sort out over the next few
weeks, but this image from Pompeii really appealed to me, so I thought
I'd share it.

Shot on a snowy morning (the snow doesn't really show up except in
the larger version, but it prints beautifully). Again, going for the
graphics. Tone and clarity courtesy of the G10.

Thanks very much! I'm a sucker for graphic shapes and colors.

More magic from the Canon G10. It's definitely love.

I just picked up a Canon G10 and have to say I'm pretty pleased with
the results. The attached photo was shot under hot lights with a
softbox; the subject is my well-worn, 80s vintage Fender Stratocaster.
Printed this thing up 13x20, and detail level and resolution is just
wonderful.
Anyway, since the G10 and I are in the puppy love stage, I thought I'd
share it.

Well, shoot...it's perfect, isn't it? Good job. And the strand of hair parallel to the wall is brilliant.

Looking through some older photos, and saw this one taken on a
perfect day in Hilo, Hawaii. Shot on Velvia slide film and using a
polarizer. Other than level adjustments to replicate the tones of the
slide, this image has had very little manipulation. It does one good to
know there are place like this out there. And I'm a sucker for blue.
Anyway, any thoughts, comments, etc., appreciated.

Another from my series working with actors interpreting the
theme "angels+demons."
Thanks....

This is another selection from the "angels+demons" series I'm working
on. There seems to be a bit of demon in every angel (and vice versa).

This is gorgeous. It feels like either a place I've been or a place I'd like to be. Very cool.
