  1. Sandy, I just signed up. Thanks for the generous offer! I agree with Brian, photo.net is very lucky to have folks like you. I don't post much unless I realy have something to add that has not been said. I do check in each day to see whats new in most all of the forums. I do not look at the gallerys often, but they are nice. I would like to thank all the moderators and volunteers, especially Bob Atkins as I spend most of my time in the nature forum and have really enjoyed all his articles even if he does shoot with Canon gear!

I wish all the members of photo.net a happy new year and a year of great photographs!

  2. The modified TC14E & TC20E meters correctly (including matrix) but dos not autofocus with my AF lenses.

The modified TC14E & TC20E still autofocus correctly on my AF-I & AFS lenses?

  3. Hi Antonio,

I have both the Nikon 500mm f:4 AF-I and a CPU converted 400mm f:3.5. I have found the 400mm f:3.5 to be my favorite long lens on my D100 digital. I also, have the modified TC14E & TC20E which work just fine on both lens. With AF and the CPU converted 400mm f:3.5 the lens meter correctly (including matrix) but do not show the adjusted aperture. IE: if the lens shows f:3.5 before you add the TC20E it stills shows f:3.5 after installing it, not f:7. The modification of the TC14E & TC20E does not affect the use of AFS lenses.

I find the optical quality of the TCxxE matched with 400mm f:3.5 to be as good as the TC14b.

The disadvantage in making the TCxxE conversion is you void any warranty. The modified TC still AF correctly on AF-I & AFS lenses?

  4. I made an exllent hard case for my 400 f/3.5 out of a 19" toolbox from Lowe's. I installed foam that I cut to fit the lens with the hood extended + a tc-14b and a F4/s attatched. Great for working out of the back of my van.
  5. Dick, Thanks for the lessons, but I have a question for you. Did you have any other trouble getting your gear on as "carry on". I am going to the Oregon coast at the end of June to take a workshop with Charles Campbell. I have a Photo Trekker back pack with about forty LBS of gear. I plan to get a hard pullman from Samsonite for my Bogen 3401 and personal gear. I do not want to check 10 grand of camera gear (I have read all the "tells of terror" in the arcives). Any advice you or others can give will be welcome!

A question for Shun, I think you have a Gitzo 1325? Will it fit in a tight 28" ID Samsonite suite case with out the head. I plan on getting one soon.

Thanks for any latest tips any of you can give! If I go by what all I have read here the past few months I might just stay at home!

By the way Dick, I had a great time shooting with you at Tremont! Thanks for all the help!

  6. This is more of a question than than an anwser. I, also , am going to Minnesota in late August for 5 days to photograph/canoe in the Lake #1,#2, Gabbro, and Bald Eagle lakes area. My question is equipment wise. I have a Nikon 70-300 4.5/5.6 ED and a 300 2.8. Is the big lens worth the trouble to bring it? I plan to also bring a 24 2.8 and 28 to 85 3.5/4.5. Is a 3021/ball head to much to carry (29 portages). Sounds like from the anwsers Dave got that I will be doing more Land Scape/trip documentation than Wild Life?

    Thanks for any info!
