I asked myself the same question this past weekend.

I drove up to the mountains in Arkansas to try to catch some early fall color and took the family along to share the experience (wife and 5 year old son). I found that of the 6 rolls of film I took with me I only shot about 3/4 of one roll due to bathroom and snack runs.

I am just an amateur weekend warrior and haven't really been on an outing with other photographers but I definately have not had much turning it into a family outing (as much as I enjoy their company). It is more difficult to get into the right frame of mind with extra distractions.

Just my 2 cents worth.

BTW... The trees are absolutely fried up there due to a drought since March (acording to one of the locals).

I don't pay much attention to reviews from Moose or Photo mags that have something to gain from the lens reviews. Moose also gave great reviews of some of the Promaster lenses (go figure). I would rather get a few first hand experiences from REAL people.

Thanks..

I can't believe no one has tried this lens. I would like to know the answer to this one myself. I would like to know if it is much better than the Tamron 70-300. I know people say it is the same lens, I don't believe it. I can't afford a 300 2.8 right now for my Nature Photograpy and this lens sounds like a fair alternative to the Tamron's or Sigma's.

I have never been to Antartica but I would definately bring the tripod you asked about. As in any nature photography, a tripod is our friend. (If you want the best possible results.)

I think this basically reflects my feelings about zoo's in general although I have taken some of my favorite shots there in the past. The older I get the more I detest them.

I couldn't resist posting this one after seeing Bob's.

I have to agree. Dan has some very informative and some of them even
'inspiring' articles on there.
