im using the D1 with the SB80DX.
How do you set the flash to automatic? Is that done by using TTL Matrix metering?
Thanks

Hello,
Because my first SLR was a Nikon F80 (pop-up flash), I assumed that
a flash was just that - a small flash of light, until my partner
bought a D1 with SB80DX! I began to realise that this flash was as
complicated as the camera. I've been playing about with it and
discovering what the different settings can produce. However, when I
went out with some photographers at weddings, some of my pictures
resulted in incorrect light for that scene- the flash was too
powerful or too dark, I couldn't get it just right.
My problem is this - how can you know how much power to set on the
back of the flash to different scences? It takes me several test
shots to get the best light and I can't be doing that as a
professional! I have tried consulting the manual, but at 160 pages
it's a little hard to learn. I've thought of putting it on
automatic, but how exactly is this done?
Is there a less complicated way of using the flash, or another flash
that is just as effective?
Many thanks for your time,
Fe

I mentioned photoguard earlier, it doesn't seem correct as the cost is so low. I tried E&L but they do not cover indeminty; stuff like cover if my pictures don't turn out. A more excessive policy is what I'm searching for, covering more extensive unfortunate situations. I wonder why one particular photographer mentioned it was ?400 per year.

Thanks for all responses. I forgot to mention that I am in the UK. Does anyone know of insurers in the UK?

Hello,
I'm having difficulty in finding insurance to be a wedding
photographer. I found a website, photoguard, but it quoted it very
cheap and I hear from other wedding photographers that it could be
about ?400 per year to cover all sorts of things such as liability.

I have a Nikon F80 to which I can view the slides to learn about it all, but I'm moving to digitial. I've heard that a full stop in a 35mm is equivlent to 1/2 stop in a digitial? Thanks very much to everyone.

Thanks for everyone's input, it's a great help.

Hello all,
It has long been my dream job to be a travel photographer. After
years of sitting back and thinking it's too unrealistic, I decided
to at least find out the exact path to becoming one. Does anyone
know how to become a travel photographer? Perhaps I work for travel
agencies photographing their hotels, perhaps I work for
magazines...I'm not sure. How would I start?!
Thanks,
Fiona

Hi all,
I would like to get some clarity on using the compensation and
bracketing features. I have a basic sense of what they do, but in
the 5 years I've had an SLR it has never crossed my mind to use them
in any situation. Under which situations I should use them in?
Thanks

I have currently have an F80 and am going digitial for the start of
my own wedding photography business. On accompanying photographers
on weddings I have used my partner's D1. But it's my turn to get a
digi and I wondered if a D100 was good enough? I prefer it as it is
lighter, and it does have twice the amount of pixels as the D1.
I'm also upgrading my lenses too. I'm going for a sigma EX DG f/2.8
24-70mm. For a telephoto zoom lens I'm going for a sigma 70-200mm
f/2.8 APO EX HSM. What do you think? I've thought about a VR lens
but it isn't f/2.8 and I think I need this aperture for its fast
shutter speed, as well as other effective results.
Thanks

Hello all,
My situation is this: I have just finished my degree in Psychology
but now I really want to get into wedding photography since a friend
asked my partner to do theirs back in May 2004 and I came along and
took a few shots. This is all the experience I have had. The problem
is, if I have never photographed a wedding professionally, how do I
convince someone to part with their money and have me as their
wedding photographer?
I am really eager to get it started. I found an old wedding book in
the loft from 1980 that gave me some ideas, oh and also states how
imperative it is to have a typewriter! hehe.
I have put a lot of thought into getting started and I have already
accompanied a photographer on a wedding shoot with 3 others to come
over the next few months. I am intending to gain knowledge of what a
typical day is like and at the same time taking some shots which may
act as a portfolio to perspective clients. Although, these shots are
side shots and not as good as working with the people personally. So
I thought about hiring a couple of models, or asking friends to
dress up in gowns which I would hire from a wedding shop.
Do you think that a few side-wedding shots and my model shots would
be enough in an album to show customers? I have considered offering
to do some free weddings with a free 10 x 8 and they can buy the
shots they want, but someone pointed out that 'free' might
imply 'not as good'.
I also thought of going to an upcoming bridal fayre and approaching
couples offering to be a second photographer to those who have
already hired a photographer. I could offer to be there free, not
interupt the offical photographer, and they can buy the prints
afterwards.
I would appreciate all thoughts on this matter as I am so eager to
do this but cannot really see any clear and correct paths to take.
My work at present only consists of travel and landscape images.
many thanks,
Fiona

hi peeps,
Does anyone know of a supplier for frames; but not just the usual ones,
something different and innovative, something that stands out and presents the
beauty of the photo?
Thanks
