Check the battery compartment for corrosion and poor contact, and make sure the batteries are in the right way up!

 

Remember the body of AG4 cells is the positive terminal, unlike AA cells.

battery compartment looks brand new, not seeing anything wrong. :(

Is the mode switch (behind the speed dial) set to M for manual? In A or S modes the camera will set the shutter speed automatically.

Yeah i tried in every mode shutter sound doesnt change at all.

Are you seeing the red LED indicators in the viewfinder?

Yup, the red leds show when i partially depress the shutter button

Just picked up an a minolta xd11 from a flea market and threw some batteries in it. I know that the shutter speed is controlled electronically in these cameras, and no matter what speed i set it to, it sounds the same. The B and O settings work, but 1/1000 to 1 sec are the same.

any ideas?
