This is one of those images that will be seen differently by each person. I really thought it was pizza dough! no i'm kidding. You have quite the imagination! :) nice work..

Hi Christy - this has a very nice, natural feel about it. You might have needed just a very slight tad bit more light on her face - or ideally from about your right shoulder. But that's being very picky and I dont' know enough about digital to offer up suggestions about it. It's a very cute capture! :)

Tom - you've got some really nice MX shots! I'm just breaking into shooting motocross. What shutter speed do you typically shoot at? I've got some tack sharp shots but at 1/2000 it even freezes the knobs on the tires. I want a little motion - ya know?

Hi Erika - the print is probably much better than what I'm seeing here. On my monitor it appears that the nice detail you talk about is lost. I can't even tell it's a radiator. That's nothing negative about your shooting - maybe it was lost in the scan or my monitor.

Did you sepia tone this? I like it. The composition is a little awkward. The original print might not be so dark but in this scan the portion under the pillar is just about black. That's not necessarily bad but I think too much of it is showing. Remember - these are just my opinions. Here's something to try that I now do as a standard (if you don't already) - try setting your iso at 80% of the film's iso. i.e. - set 400 at 320 - but develop normal. You'll achieve finer grain and nice contrast. Keep it up! :)

  1. I like this. Considering you had intense light in front of her and she appears to have fairly dark skin you got a pretty nice exposure. This would be a very hard shot to meter for perfect exposure on her and the sand - you had to give up something. If you are good in the darkroom you could have more for the sand and then done some d&b on the girl. Did you meter with a handheld? A red filter would have given some nice contrast on the clouds and sand ripples I think. It's still a nice photo! :)
