  1. Great tip! Just did it and now have a clean viewfinder (yes, i made some faint marks, but at least was able to remove toons of black pieces from the seams).

Get a cheap plastic dental mirror and cleaning probe in the dental care section of your favorite general merchant.

Remove the lens in the normal manner.

Face into the front opening of the camera. Use the dental mirror to look up at the focusing screen. Towards the front of the camera you will see a little metal clip. Hook this clip with the cleaning probe and pull towards yourself. The screen should drop down at the front and pivot at the rear.

Carefully note the position of the screen (is prism towards the view finder or towards the mirror?) so you can reinstall correctly - if screen is inside-out then the focus will be off.

Be very careful - the tool is sharp and there are two things that can be scratched easily (the mirror and the screen).

Remember I am not a lawyer - seek competent advice before you do anything.

  2. Hello, i'm posting here since this is a second hand camera I will like to buy, it is on an online auction and since it's part of a lot, the seller can't tell much. By a good odd chance, does someone here recognizes such body?

    Thanks

  3. I'm curious. You write you can't profit from the 6x magnification. Why is this? Is it the difference in eye relief?

Hello, I can't tell, but the problem is (with an 17mm FD lens, haven't yet tried with other lenses) that if i move/raise the finder's level, I assume this will do magnifications, everythings starts to get blurred no matter if I try to get back the focus via the lens ring. So basically I have to leave it low on the finder and profit from its luminosity. Is clear that one can better focus through it than through the standard finder that it's significantly smaller and some light could come in by the sides.

I've just developed a film and it looks like i got good focus on some shots. Will see this afternoon after scanning the film what the real results were.

  4. Excuses for reviving such and old (F1) thread. But I've just got a Canon F-1N Waist Level Finder FN-6X. It fits and locks correctly onto and F1 OLD. I can see half/enough of the exposimeter reading but can't profit from the 6x magnification levels. I'm happy because of the luminosity and comfort and hope to be able to continue to use it. Haven't develop the first roll suing it..
  5. Hello,

Just got a Data Bank FN from a broken F1-New. The door seems to fit on the F1 OLD, but there's a small difference between both backdoors. The F1 old is straight on all sides of the rectangular shape, while the F1-New door has a slight leveled line at the center. Please see the image (F1-New).

Has anyone used one of those on the old F1?

I'm thinking on trying to adapt it. Has anyone here done so?

Thanks in advance for any hint or idea you like to share.

  6. Yes, I can confirm that on this 1976 F1 model. I can get to that dot and see the exposimeter go higher. So after all the wikipedia entry was right.

Now that I have you, and aware this might not be the right thread. I have bought today a Data Back FN and can't seem to understand if it will be safe to use it on the F1 old? I can close the door but see there's a slight difference between both on the top side. Has anyone used an FN data bank on the old F1?

  7. Hello, my f1 goes until ASA 1600 (not 2000) it has the letter Q = 1976. I read that non-revised versions could go to ASA 2000 and then with the revision to 3200. Taken from wikipedia:

    1. Increase the maximum ASA from 2000 to 3200.

Do I have a broken ASA selector or this is just a mistake on the wikipedia entry?
