I've noticed a few scratches on my Epson V800 glass bed. The largest is about a hair width in size. I was wondering if they would show up when I start my family archiving project, where I would scan at a maximum of 1200 DPI for prints and 3000–4000 DPI for negatives?

Thank you so much for the quick response, Charles. I was also wondering what I should do to fill-in/repair the scratches?

I'm currently a beginner in the scanning community. While cleaning my V800, I noticed a few minor scratches on the scanner glass that
were the width of a human hair. I was wondering if these scratches will be noticeable at all if I were to scan photographs at 1200 DPI. If
so, what can I do to remove the scratches?
Also while cleaning, I accidentally used a lenses cleaning wipe that contained isopropyl alcohol. According to one site, this could leave
streaks on the scanner glass. I was wondering if this was the case, if these streaks are permanent or cleanable?

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and links to resources. I shall definitely take a look at them.

Hi there everyone,

I'm new to the forums and would like to say hello to everyone. I'm currently doing a massive digital archiving project with my old family photos, some of which date as far back as to the 1890's. I'm using an Epson V800 and a 2011 Macbook Air and have read-up a lot on scanning, although I'm still green when it comes to actually scanning my slides and film. Do you guys have any helpful tips to share?

Also I'm a huge fan of early colour photographs and stereographs, and wish to recreate some of them one day.

Epson V800 Default Scanning Software or VueScan?

People have told me that VueScan is a much more superior scanning software than the default software shipped in with my V800?
Is this true? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
