Serif seems to perhaps be the proportional font type specified by the site, but it seems that the font displayed is user specified based on the browser preference settings. Am I wrong about this?
-
Jose, anyone who uses a computer frequently will likely have a favorite set of fonts. For much of the site content (e.g., forum text), you can define the font used by using the font preferences panel of your Internet browser.

I might add that if one wishes to receive comments on their images, one might want to consider commenting on the images of others.
-
Shawn, I looked at your three most recently uploaded photos. They have not received written critiques or comments. The default view for Gallery images (e.g., images in your photo.net portfolio) is, in fact, the "Critiques" window. I'll leave a comment on your most recent photo upload so that you can be assured that any comments posted for your images are visible.

Thank you very much, whoever you are, for changing my name.

...the videos are completely inoperative, as far as I can tell, using either Safari v. 2.0.4 or Firefox v. 1.5.0.6.

First things first, I'd be very grateful if the powers that be would change my
user name to "Stevan Marcus", as this is my formal name.
Now, my motivation for asking this original question is only partly (ok, mostly)
selfish. (-:
I am reasonably confident that there are PN members who originally registered
using an alias but, after becoming more comfortable with the site, might now
like to change the alias to a real name. Alternatively, there are likely members
who, for non-trivial reasons, may need to become less readily identifiable on
the site. Divorce or marriage would be additional reasons for requiring a name
change. Given these very valid reasons for desiring a name change, I wonder if
the site management might consider restoring the ability for members to change
their names via the "My Workspace" page. Perhaps members could be limited to
only one or, at most, two name changes without having to re-register on the site.
Just a thought (or two).

...now that I've performed a few Google searches to test the possibility.
-
John, by chance would those images showing up as hits from your Google search be those from your photo.net portfolio that have been viewed the most? In other words, perhaps page hits are a factor in the Google search algorithm.

O.K., now I understand your problem. Good luck with getting it solved. If you get tired of waiting and you're not yet ready to subscribe, you might consider starting a new account, especially since you just recently joined the site.

Olivio, did you not read my above post? I'm fairly certain that it answers your question. I'm not a member of "site management" but I've been a member of this community for quite a long time. The site management is working on other issues right now so you should probably not expect an immediate response to an e-mail query.
-
If the photo upload quota for non-subscribers is one per day, it may not matter whether or not you delete the uploaded photo (your quota limit) and try to replace it with another. In other words, you may have to wait 24 hours to upload another photo.

I'm guessing that the site counter does not count repeat visits by other PN members who are logged in. If you want to keep track of your total photo.net Community Member page hits, you can embed an outside counter (e.g., www.digits.com) in your photo.net Biography, which you can modify by going to your photo.net workspace (click the "My Workspace" link at the top right-hand side of every PN web page).

If I understand your question correctly, this issue has come up many times in the Site Feedback Forum. The simple answer is that the only anonymous ratings that count toward the TRP rankings are those received via the "Rate Recent Photos" link. Anonymous ratings received via the "Rate Category" method do not count toward the TRP rankings. I seem to recall that one reason for this is to prevent nude images from completely dominating the TRP.

An Internet Troll is someone who submits posts (or e-mails) on the Internet intended to provoke an indignant response in the reader(s). Troll can also refer to the actual post or e-mail submitted by the troll. "Trolling" is what one does when one is being a troll. On the surface, your original post seemed like a good candidate to be a troll, which is why Brian asked whether you were "trolling".

The reason for Mr. Sturges' departure from PN has been clearly explained (Thanks, Brian!). He seems to have been very reasonable, if not gracious regarding the situation. Before this thread degenerates into something ugly (probably inevitable), why not just shut it down? Not delete it, mind you, but simply block any further posts.
Just a thought.

No obvious problems here in Houston, TX.

Your very informed response is immensely helpful!

Thanks for your response, Dave. Unfortunately, I'm not getting useful hits on this topic by searching this forum, so I'd be grateful for any thoughts you and other experienced folks might have.

I did a forum search and couldn't find an answer to my question, so
please forgive me if the topic has been discussed before. Yesterday I
was contacted by a small Hong Kong-based postcard company regarding
the possible purchase of "full licenses" for a few of my photos. While
I regularly sell photographic prints, I have never been asked about
licensing a photo before. Could some of you experienced folks let me
know what a reasonable asking price/fee is for licensing a photograph?
Thanks in advance for all responses.
Steve

Thanks for the changes, Brian--very nice! And, like Carl, I didn't get "kicked off" in the middle of a rating session. I can't remember the last time that happened.

It's my understanding that Apple's Safari web browser recognizes color profiles embedded in readable files (e.g., JPEG files with ICC profiles).

Duncan, this bug has been discussed MANY times on this forum. It has existed for at least a couple of years now and probably longer. I can't imagine that the site maintainers have not tried to fix it.
Either charge these guys $25, advertisement fee, or delete them altogether.
