Independent reviews of this book are quite stellar -- you must weigh the amount of knowledge, insights, and clarity of conveyance (yes, that's a word) against the cost.
But don't take my word for it! Check out the following independent reviews:
"Gary Friedman's Konica Minolta A1, A2 Step-by-Step Guide is brilliant and I can't recommend it more highly. The 242-page book includes just about everything any level photographer could want to know about the A1 or A2 Konica Minolta cameras. Well done Gary, keep 'em coming." - Peter Russell (a thorough review is available at http://www.yorkshiremedia.com/cms/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=50 )
"Dear Gary: I am really enjoying your book, it is the best manual on anything I have ever read. You should do the computer manuals, you are a born teacher and clearly you really know your subject." - Ivan Tentchoff
"on writing style, i love it. Mr. Friedman's style of writing is conversational. that is to say, it's not the dry type of writing you'd typically find in a technical book." - A reader from dpreview.com
Hope this helps!! :-)

The new Konica Minolta A1 / A2 book is out! This e-book explains, in
very clear language and using lots of examples, what ever feature and
setting do. Plus, it provides plenty of inspiration to go out and see
the world in new ways, improving the level of your photographic
skills.

(Full disclosure: I'm the author. I want to tell the world about this
book! :-) )
Sincerely,
Gary Friedman

Many, many thanks for your collective input!! After consulting with several sources, I'm now planning to travel to the Xiahe province, which has little tourism and a large population of monks. (Hope it's not too cold! :-) )
Be well, one and all!
Sincerely,
Gary Friedman

I'm in Beijing now, and having photographed it to death I find myself
with an extra week on my hands (Feb. 7-11th, 2004). I can travel
anywhere, and am hoping to hear from others of some particularly
picturesque provinces or villages I might be able to visit during
this time.
A sample of the China images I enjoy taking can be found at
<http://www.FriedmanArchives.com/roadtochina/Sampler.htm> (There are
probably too many there, but at least you don't have to click your
mouse incessantly! :-) )
I appreciate any wisdom, experience, or knowledge from this forum!
Sincerely,
Gary Friedman

I have just posted an in-depth technical article about how Minolta's
wireless flashes works. (This, I think, is Minolta's best-kept
secret! Their wireless flash is still the best in the world.)
You can read the full text and see many sample photos at

More to the point: None of the Minolta digital cameras can meter flash exposure in realtime like the film cameras can. So Minolta (and Nikon, and Canon) had to come out with a new flash which metered using a pre-flash only. In Minolta's case, that was the 5600/3600. So your 5400 WILL NOT WORK with any of the current Dimage cameras.
