Thanks for all the comments. Yes, this is a photo of a real place on the Colorado Plateau. The photo is pretty much a straight representation of what I saw, though it was somewhat complicated to reproduce -- I had to make two separate scans of two negatives (one exposed for highlights and one for shadows) and then merge them in the computer as film could not handle the tonal range my eye could see in the scene. Other than that I just did normal curves adjustments, dodging and burning, etc. The idea to better center the middle pool is a good one -- maybe if I get a chance to go back...

I'm considering making a print of this photo for a gift, so I thought

I'd get any feedback others might have.

 

The photo was shot last May from the south rim of the Grand Canyon,

in color, and desaturated in Photoshop when I realized it looked far

better in black-and-white.
