I own a D70 for nearly 5 years and 3 lenses i.e. 18-70mm kit lens, Tamron SP 90mm and Sigma 70-300mm. I use the kit lens most often especially while travelling and Tamron SP 90mm for Macro shot.

Dear all,
Thank you soooo much for your responses.
I am in a situation now, just like I was 4 years ago buying my first dSLR knowing nothing except that 'it takes great photos'....To give you an idea of how new I am in the industry, I just found out that Flash=Strobe two days ago watching the clip from www.strobist.com. I tried to read the rest of the tutorials but without a flash and not knowing much about what a flash is, other than it adds lights when light source is not available or scarce, all jargons are really hard to understand.

Frank and Jerry,
I have no special preference for SB-900. I only read about SB-800, SB-600 and SB-900 and that if one were to invest in SB-600, people rather go for SB-800, but SB-800 is now obsolete, so SB-900 is the only thing I know for now. I've asked around some friends if I could get some second hand flash to try out and understand the usage but to no avail. They just say "Get SB-900".
I plan to attend photography course next year to get formal education on photography but I can't wait till then to learn as much as I can from the Internet and from great guys like yous who are so willing to share. My aspiration is to become a freelance photographer someday.. because it is my passion. To be honest, I have not found a specific type of photo that I like to shoot particularly because I just enjoy capturing every moments, places, expression etc. etc for now.
These are my photos (I am not sure if I am allowed to post a link to my own photos here).

Another thing to mention is that I know what camera shop says is most probably right.. but.. I just want to know that what I am buying is what I want... not what they want to sell to me. hehe. I also understand that every equipment purchased is an investment and I'd wish to go to the best stuff straight away if not because of budget constraint.
Jens, thanks for the tips of '200W and adjustable in 1/10 +' for the lighting.
Is there anything I should look out for or any site I can refer to for some good information on what types of lighting is considered good.

A lot of ideas that I want to shoot for now is achievable in a studio environment. As for flash, I believe I can still choose outdoor theme with natural light available. Will have to try on indoor events/wedding later when I can afford a flash.
Just wondering, does wedding photos/portrait shots (indoor, not studio) require flash all the time?
Thank you once again!
Best regards,
Jane

Hi all,
I own the following gear:
- Nikon D70
- 18-70mm kit lens,
- Tamron SP 90mm F2.8
- Sigma 70-300mm F4 -5.6

I am planning to turn professional. However due to budget constraint, I am not able to get new body and all the accessories I need but I am trying to learn as much about photography as possible with my current gears.
I'm taking more portrait shots lately and would like to try out studio photography, events and wedding shootings. These will require lighting equipments.

I am wondering if I should get a Nikon SB-900 flash (I do not own any flash currently) or a studio lighting setup. Understanding that if buying a flash, I'll not be able to do studio shooting because I will need another light source. Camera shop says that if I use a speedlight as a light source for studio shooting, the speedlight will go kaput very quickly, is this true?

There's a package of studio equipment (China made) available for approx USD 600.
2 Lights and Stands
2 Softboxes
2 Backdrops (White and Black) : 10ft width x 20ft height
1 Backdrop stand
Trigger

Another choice is Nikon SB-900 speedlight, which I could also use if I change camera body to D700 or D3? which costs approx USD 425.

Could you give me some advise please ? Appreciate if you could share with me what you think.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Jane

Dear all,
I own a Nikon D70 since 2004 and have been shooting quite a lot lately during my trip to Korea early Nov this year.
The camera has been doing great without any problems until suddenly, the four-way cursor is not moving.
I tried changing to M, A, S etc.. it's not moving anywhere. Changing A/F or M on the body won't make any difference.
Although I have owned the camera for 4 years but I have just recently got to understand it a bit deeper but I
know this is acting strange... Could I have changed any setting in the menu that caused this?
I confirm the cursor pad is working because when I use it for other settings, it all worked fine. Only when I
wanted to change the focus to top, bottom, left and right that it is not working..
Any advise is very much appreciated!!
Best regards,
Jane

Hi!
I am planning to buy my first DLSR, it'll be also my first SLR.
I have used point and shoot all these while but what I want no
longer can be achieved with my Canon Ixus II. Although I love that
it's compact and can be carried around so easily.
I have very little experience with SLR. But I know it can do wonders
and I would love to start shooting and learning. But first I got to
get myself a camera.
My budget is around USD800. Should be able to get a DLSR, no?
I was looking at Canon 300D but it's not using AA battery, which I
prefer. Also, I bought extra SD card for my Ixus II. Therefore, if I
buy a DSLR which also uses SD card, it'll save me a fortune.
A camera shop owner introduced me to Fuji FinePix S7000.
It is within my budget and is using AA batteries. Nonetheless, I am
not sure if it uses XD card or SD card?
I am a little sceptical towards non-canon camera because I have not
used one but I appreciate your recommendations.
Please kindly help. Thank you!
Jane
