  2. I love my Blu site and had only minor issues when getting it set up. They seem to over-promise and under-deliver with the turnaround times, which they really should stop doing! I would rather be told that it will take a week and then be surprised when it's up a few days early. I'm glad to hear they've hired more people...I imagine that will make a big difference and they will continue to grow!<p>Just give 'em a few days. Best of luck with your new site.<p>

  3. Hi David. No need to go all the way to the harbor...the Engineer's Club is in a very scenic location in the heart of Mount Vernon. There are plenty of beautiful historic structures including the Washington Monument, plus nicely manicured flowers, greenery, and fountains. I've shot weddings and engagement portraits around there and love the area. Check out this website: <a href="http://www.mvcd.org/">mvcd.org</a><p>Good luck and enjoy Baltimore!<p>- Jill
  4. So, it's just the processional photos and nothing else is missing? I say just tell them and offer some free prints...there's a good chance they won't think it's the end of the world. They were aware that you were just getting started in the biz so they knowingly took a risk. This happens to experienced pros though, too, so don't beat yourself up too much.<p>I've heard of a lot of good recovery programs. Try <a href="http://lc-tech.com/software/buynow/prmacbuynow.html" target="_blank">LC-Tech</a>. You can download a free trial and see if it works first before purchasing it.
  5. The images shown on the intro page are warped...make sure when you resize or crop that

you're constraining the proportions. Just looking at the logo and site colors, I would think

you only shoot gothic-themed weddings. The logo is also barely readable. Just constructive

criticism...it's a good start! Best of luck with your business!

  6. I was shooting a reception last summer and almost all the guests were on the dance floor. I saw something bright in my peripheral vision and soon realized that a guest had set down their napkin on top of a candle and it was in flames. I was able to grab a corner and shake it so that the fire went out (luckily the fabric was somewhat flame-retardent, so it was easy to put out) and then a guy from catering removed the evidence before anyone else even noticed. I should've told the bride what happened...maybe I could've gotten a tip!
  7. I think it's a fabulous idea and it fits your style and the couple perfectly. I don't think it would work as well if they weren't fun photojournalistic shots like these. I haven't ordered anything other than traditional matted albums so I can't give you advise on making it more like bookstore book. Would you mind letting me know how it turns out and how much it costs to make? I'd love to do something like this too...

  8. The rules for women are different than for men in my opinion. I'm assuming you mean dressy shorts which are trendy nowadays...nice fabric cut like trousers, but they come down to your knees? I wouldn't wear those to shoot a wedding, but I think dressy capris would be fine or gauchos. I wear Dansko sandles to shoot during the summer and am very comfortable. I don't wear tank tops, but think a conservative one would be okay and I'd bring a jacket or nice sweater to wear over it if the reception is indoors.
  9. I found another thread where someone asked this question, but he didn't really get an answer. I'm

working on editing a group of about 700 raw files in Bridge CS2 for mac...it's a mixture of files from my

Nikon D200 & D70 and my assistant's Canon 20D. All of a sudden, it is saying the batch feature is not

available and when I try to use the image processor a pop-up says "Sorry, something major happened and

I can't continue! Would you like to see more info?"....and then the info it gives is: "ReferenceError:

this.dlgMain.ddSet.onChange is not a function: 810." I've tried restarting and repairing my permissions in

the utilities, but nothing has changed. Can anyone please offer any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Jill

  10. I've shot only three weddings so far with my new D200, but ran into a problem towards

the end of my last one. The camera can normally display three playback modes...full

screen, four thumbnails, or eight (I think) thumbnails. I can't get it to change off of the

four-thumbnail screen, so can't see the histogram which is a major problem! Does anyone

know if it's possible that I locked this mode in somehow? Nothing happens when I press

the playback mode button (the little grid one next to the LCD) and I've tried changing out

the battery and memory card and I reset all the custom functions.

I'm really hoping to not have to send it back to Nikon...especially right in the middle of the

wedding season. I haven't needed to get anything repaired by Nikon before...do they

provide loaners? I have enough gear to work without it and still have a backup, but I'd

rather use the D200. Any advice is appreciated.

  11. My first was in the Summer of 2000, right after I graduated with my BFA in Photography

and had been emailing photographers whose work I liked. The pro had me tag along at a

wedding just as a "try-out"...he had a second photographer already, so I wasn't overly

pressured. I honestly can't remember if I liked the images I shot, but the pro did hire me

for many more weddings, so I guess I did okay!<p> Strangely, the moment that sticks out

most to me at that wedding was a food incident. I was so nervous beforehand that I

couldn't eat, so by the time we got to the reception I was starving! A waiter walked by

with a tray of crab-balls, so I snagged one and popped the whole thing in my

mouth...mistake! It was fresh out of the kitchen and so hot that it burned the roof of my

mouth. I actually got blisters and could only eat soft food for the next few days. Sooo,

    here's my tip: always carry a snack. = )

  12. Here is one of my favorites...Nikon D70, bounced fill flash, sharpened only. I wish all the

weddings I shoot could be as ideal as this one. It was an unusually warm day in

November, the leaves were at peak color, and the couple was gorgeous and comfortable in

    front of the camera. <p>

I will second what was said above about needing to slow down and notice the details. I

always feel rushed knowing that everyone wants to get to the reception. Hopefully with

more experience, I will gain confidence and not have to worry so much about the technical

details. This was my first year on my own, and overall it was a great start! Thank you to

all the photo.net folks for posting so much helpful information. Happy Holidays!<p>
