everyone deserves feedback dear...3.31 and 3.97. how else will the average or in your words "below average" improve? i consider myself average in many facets of photography and always welcome constructive critisism. Best.

well i see Irene has removed her comments...oh well.

great look on the model. i am distracted by the crease in the background just above and along her right shoulder. also, the scan looks a bit soft. keep working at it! more of a catch light in her eyes might also serve to bring the viewer in a bit more.

  1. the photo isn't tilted, but i do admit i can give the appearanc. 10 feet beyond the trees in the foreground is a 500+ foot drop, this is a very exposed ridge at around 6000 feet. resons for appearance of a tilted shot: the shot was taken with a 18mm lenses (hence the outward bend of the trees), the trees are wind stressed (leaning right), the waterline moves away from the camera as the eye moves left. NO MORE TILTING COMMENTS!!! thanks much - kevin
  2. nice pic. not a fan of the frame. have a hard time finding one i like myself, so not much to suggest there. i think this shot would benefit if you found a subject. the top 1/3 should be cropped. too washed out, competes with the silky water.

Burton Custom - own one myself...now my rock board...anyway, i agree the subject is a bit dark. i look forward to getting some snow in wa. soon and trying to take a few more snow pics this year. looks like another stop of exposure or some fill would dial in the rider.
  3. nice shot. more head room possibly, what's with the bottom right corner? too bad the tree is directly behind him, offset would be crispers. you whole portfolio shows a lot determination, you have some great shots in there and some great unconventional shots. how the riders you don't know treat you when you take shots of them?

i posted a similar shot about a month ago. it was not adjusted for levels, was a bit too bright, and was a shorter exposure. how does this one strike you? bear in mind that it was very foggy (low clouds up there), so the back portions appear a bit more diffused than the foreground. More shots from Mt. Rainier are in this folder.

    thanks for your feedback.

  4. what is your technique for appling a red filter via PS? just boosting contrast? are you changing curves? cool shot - woudl like to see more down the trail or off to the right. with our winter so far, this is probably still a great ride this year!
  5. those are the best comments. "i don't like...one bit". you sound like an crabby old english woman. judging from the quality of your own submissions, i would expect more....like a why - something constructive. but i guess the fact that you did comment, meant there was something that deemed it worth your while.

the blown out portions aren't inevitable. some lower speed film or a polarizer to drop the stops down might do it. of course, you'd need to meter off the sign to begin with, which i doubt was done here. great idea - if its close to you, then maybe try again.
  6. thanks douglas. my avg ratings are probably more a function of rating via the "recent selected uploads" option. that means that i sometimes go through a lot of images that aren't necessarily high quality, but i rate them anyway. i have revisited quite a few of them, and rarely, if ever feel the need to edit my original stance. i do admit i could give more time to comments/critiques, but who couldn't? thanks again for looking and your input. i think a frame around this would help with the advice to burn out the top portion.
  7. Taken on a very foggy day on the Paradise River Trail. lens is a

18mm, hence the angle of the side trees (right side is closer). what

do you think? the flowers are much sharper in my latest print, but

everything else is pretty much representative.

  8. air cooled? doubt it. not since the late 80's. i think this model is bit newer. not a big deal - the pic is cool maybe i'll try the same with the boxter and 911 models i have! a few changes to the choice of ground and the license plate, and this would be hard to separate from the real thing...

looks good, but i think it could benefit from a stronger subject - i guess i'm saying get closer.

as for chris' commments - what are you talking about? "way too much photoshop"? he's shooting velvia...if anything its under-saturated in its presentation here probably due to overcast conditions. if you really believe it was photoshopped so much, can you indicate why you think that? specific areas maybe?
