Sounds like you've got yourself a wonderful junky camera -- shoot it and enjoy!

I think Thomas' description of the GA's noise is accurate (except my experience with grinding noise from a Sigma is with Minolta bodies). You shouldn't be hearing a sound that suggests gears aren't meshing.
As far as the flashing "29", I pulled out the camera manual and went through it quickly looking for some clue as to error messages and found none. The manual does note that if the 120/220 setting isn't correct, the 220 film will rewind after frame 16 but that's about it.

The GA645 is not a quiet camera and it does hesitate when starting.
When you load film, it's helpful to put a little pressure on the roll until you get to the "start" marker (I just put my thumb on it). Make certain that the film is centered on the take up spool. I've not had mine stop mid-roll but then again I've not used 220 in it.
Hope this helps!

I like his photographs better than his acting. Noticed that a local gallery represents him, so I'll drop by to see what they look like on paper as opposed to the monitor.

To pick up on what Matt wrote -- because the camera is not TTL you have to accomidate for the light loss due to any filter you use as well. I typically have it set for aperature priority and the metering works well enough for me to shoot Provia and get well exposed slides.
-
The Brownie Hawkeye (bakelite) box cameras, even thought they're labeled as no using 120 film, will accomidate a 120 spool at the top of the camera where the film's loaded but need a 620 spool for take up.

Nikon's not on top in digital (overall)-- ranking 5th at best. With film P&S cameras being produced cheaply by any number of companies and rebranded, it's small wonder that they may abandon the film P&S market. Nikon appears to be making rational decisions about which markets it can reasonably compete in.
This is not to say that we won't have film P&S cameras for years to come. It's to say that those devices are cheaply produced commodities and Nikon's efforts can get a greater return elsewhere.
I don't think the world will be much affected if we don't see blister packed Nikon film P&S cameras in the photo aisle of the MegaMart.

"[brian] where these ratings represent more than 15% each of the persons total number ratings, are deleted automatically. Not every day, but periodically.
[Nestor]And so the same procedure for the 7/7's and 6/6's...? Just curious..."
Less than 15% might be appropriate for any flyers (1,2,6,7) but not just he low end of the range.
Wondering how this goes -- is PN the Lake Wobegon of photographers (where everybody is above average)?

KEH is very conservative and reliable in their ratings. I bought a zoom lens and back for my Bronica ETRSi and they look and perform like new.

Thanks for the tip, Bob. Mozilla does work faster and I'm not getting the blank pages as with IE6. The Opera browser also solves the blank page problem and appears to be just as quick as Mozilla.
One wonders if on of those MS security updates may have caused a problem. Until recently I had no difficulty with IE6.

Perhaps folks should refer to the following: http://www.apa.org/journals/psp/psp7761121.html
I dunno but I've never received an email from anyone asking why I assigned a rating of 5 or better.

Leo -- I just had the great good fortune to spend a week in Sicily. I was witness to some very creative forms of expression: food, art, buildings, and talking with one's hands! Being relentlessly monolingual, I was amazed at the number of dialects spoken. Fortunately, people took pity on this poor American. But this is off topic, so somebody assign it a rating, quick!
-
Leo writes: "Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with sharp intelligence, holier-than-thou attitude and an ability for expletives."
I sorta kinda doubt that the latter two would be considered "blessings" -- at least the "holier-than-thou" stuff because really creative expletives can be entertaining (just ask George Carlin). It's the same old boring expletives we can do without.
Peace out.

After hanging out in PN for awhile (and being one of those real "hard" raters) I finally got around to posting some photos. So those folks who have sent email saying I'm the lowest known form of life for awarding a "3" or (horrors!) a "2" *and* don't have the cojones to post any pics will now simply have to make due by casting aspersions on my ancestry. <GRIN>

You can turn your question around and ask why are there no "bad" or "very bad" photos on photo.net? When last I looked, I don't think that there was a single image rated below 3.0, which is remarkable. Of course, you don't get flamed for giving 4's or better, either.

Polaroid offers a free and very effective piece of dust removal software: http://www.polaroid.com/service/software/poladsr/poladsr.html

Sigma has, in the past, replaced chips in their lenses to fix problems that pop up with new camera models. Sigma "reverse engineers" its products, I believe, so compatability can be an issue. I'm surprised that you're having problems with Tamron lenses, since they license their technology.

Well Robert, i didn't realise i was being graded on my grammar in an internet forum - why don't you remove the stick from your ass and get back to the topic at hand.
You're not being graded on manners either, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't exercise some.
A working definition of voyeurism and the field you're researching in would be helpful.

I have a Polaroid SS4000 that does a very creditable job -- I've taken scans from it up to 16x20. No problems with Windows XP and the SCSI card although you do have to reboot the computer after you turn the scanner on.

Looking at my Yashicamat (EM), it appears that the female Bay 1 mounts simply screw off. Finding a junked version or asking a repair shop that works on these might get you the part. You might want to try Pacific Rim Cameras to see if they could be of help.

I noticed Computers4Sure have two listed - a 3200 model and a 3200 "Pro" (with about a $150.00 difference in price). They're not in stock, of course.
I wonder if this means the USA versions won't have the European software bundle?

In a word, yes. I use the Epson 2450 to scan 645 and 6x6 negs and it works well. I also have a Polaroid 4000, bought during the model closeout, for 35mm. The combination cost me less than buying one of the multi-format film scanners, plus it gives me a flatbed scanner which gets used for non-photo purposes as well.
Images from both scanners look good on the wall, which is the ultimate test!
