Naked and honest angst, moody lighting and a very sympathetic grain pattern, albiet higher than I would normall expect from APX100 (?pushed a couple stops?). The recent surgical site looks like the residua from a neck dissection- a radical type of cancer surgery for throat and mouth tumors.

Superbly dramatic renditioning of an oft (?overly) photographed landmark. The wealth and moonlit textures of the sky almost surpass the ghostly span of the bridge as it fades to black towards the bottom.

Although the limited depth of field accentuates the graceful sweeping hyperbola, I would have preferred to see a bit more detail in the background, although this would take this composition from the abstract to the semi-literal.

I agree that the framing is considerably stronger than the lighting which is simply too harsh with too much contrast between overblown and deeply shadowed areas. I would have preferred to see the very top of the arches as they appear just a little truncated.

Great vantage point and composition. The slightly converging verticals of the skyline really do not detract from the image. There looks to be some degree of partial desaturation which works well and prevents the different colours of the lights from becoming too distracting.
  1. The perfect moment- and one that would have been lost with the lag time endemic to most digital cameras. The overall colour balance has a faint blue cast.. maybe a result of the diffused skylight lighting. This is also a great example of why people simply cannot get wildlife shots with 200-300mm lenses, and even 500-600 may seem a bit short sometimes.

Considering the innate high contrast in the subject and technique, you have done very well preserving the textures of both the skin and the robe, without blowing out the highlights. Was a green or red filter used here?
  2. This picture is just *begging* for a slighly wider lens to allow the very top of the arches to be visualized. The Canon 24 mm tilt/shift lens would have been perfect. Very sharp image for a hand held exposure... again I wonder what could have been achieved with a tripod and mirror lock.

    Great shot anyway.

Nice shot.. depth of field could be a little (well, a LOT) deeper as blurring starts to appear within a matter of meters. Time to sign up membership for the f32 club :-)

A great use of what selective (de)colourization should be used for. Good enough I think for a lofty De Beers promotion. One of the hnds maybe should be overtly more feminine-unless these are the clasped hands of the male suitor. The other shots in this folder are pretty strong too. Time to move up to medium format, methinks ;-)

The lighting is too harsh with the skin tones being washed out the the wall shadows quite distracting. This would look much better and closer to a goddess with softer lighting.
