1. Can anyone recommend a reputable place for Pentax repair that could take a

look at my 35mm lens. There is some oil on the blades and the aperture just

does not seem as snappy as it should be. I live in the Twin Cities, but am

assuming I'll have to mail it somewhere for repair. On another note, any

    opinions as to preference of the 35mm f2.8 (A or M) over the 35mm f2? I have

been thinking all along that this f2 of mine is so much better that the f2.8, but

don't really have any basis for thinking that. Thanks.

  2. Just wanted to share a few recent images I made with my CV

28mm Color Skopar on my CLE. I had a Hexanon 28mm f2.8 for

a while as well, and while I had no complaints about the it - it

was beautifully built and seemed to make nice images, I really

do like the CV better. The loss of speed was insignificant, and

the CV photos seemed a bit richer and more contrasty. Also,

personally, I really appreciate the tiny focusing lever really

(compared to none on the Hexanon), and the CV's small size on

    my CLE.

Just wanted to share a few recent photos taken for my PAW.

Weeks 15 and 16 taken with my newly acquired Konica Hexanon

    28mm f2.8 on a CLE. It's a beautifully made lens - although I do

not have an actual Leica lens to contrast it with. I think I like its

performance based on the 4 rolls I've used it for so far, although

it is not up to the level of my 40mm Rokkor. I eventually would

like to try a C/V 28mm f3.5, both for the great things I've read

about it, and its small size on my CLE.

Definitely not a Leica, but certainly very old. I was helping my

Mom go through things at her house last weekend, and she

handed me a box of glass 4x5 negatives, saying "I was going to

throw these things out, but I thought you might be interested"

There are about 20 circa 1900 negatives, beautifully preserved,

and we have no idea who's in them. Anyway, this is just a quick

scan from a flatbed scanner with a 4x5 holder. It seemed

appropriate to this theme. Sorry for the words.

  5. Hi, I've been an avid reader here for the past year, ever since I got

my CLE/40mm Rokkor. I really enjoy looking at other people's

photos and thought I should share some of my own. Almost all

the pics are taken with the CLE/40mm Rokkor combo, not

original Leica but at least the lens mount is right, so I hope it still

interests some. Sorry for the all kid content, but with three little

ones, it's hard to find the time to shoot anything else. If you're

    interested it's at:

I intend to keep it updated throughout the year.

  6. I would like to get my Minolta CLE CLA'd. I would appreciate any

suggestions as to who or where might be a qualified place to

send it. I live in Minneapolis, but do not know of any places

locally that could do it. Also, what might I expect to spend.

    Thanks, Randy

  7. With the understanding that the decision is ultimately mine

alone, I was hoping for people's thoughts and experience on my

    rangefinder conundrum.

I currently have a Minolta CLE and Rokkor 40mm f2, which I have

REALLY enjoyed using over the past year (it has replaced my

Nikon AF SLR/Pentax MX 75% of the time). I seem to have been

bitten by the bug (quite severely, I think) to save/sell existing/put

on credit (you get the idea) and get myself an M6 - probably TTL

and either a 50 or 35 for starters. An M7 is just way too pricey. I

have played with a demo at a local camera store (National

Camera in Minneapolis) a couple of times and am trying to talk

myself into or out of the big jump. I don't believe renting one

    locally is possible.

I am used to an all manual camera (my MX) and not too worried

about the transition from the CLE's AE to an M6, although I do

believe that only practice will enable me to fluidly focus and

adjust for exposure. Also, I like the idea of having to think more

about the shot. My biggest concern is that I shoot my little kids

almost exclusively, and the AE does help. Has anyone found this

    a frustrating step backwards?

My CLE works great right now, but I've read enough about their

age and potential problems to be worried about its durability.

For those who have experience with both, would you have found

the step up to Leica "worth it" from a CLE? I know all this is very

subjective, but I'm fishing for people's hands on experience.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks

  8. Hi, my CLE seems slightly misaligned, both vertically (which I gather

is mostly a viewfinder hinderance) and horizontally (I have tried

focusing on as many things as I could find that were obviously one or

more miles away to check this). I am specifically wondering if anyone

has any recommendations for experienced/reliable places to have the

camera adjusted. I live in Minneapolis, but there's only a couple

    choices for cmaera repair locally.

  9. Hi, I just received a very nice condition used Minolta CLE, 40mm Rokkor, and CLE flash from a dealer and have 3 weeks to change my mind and return it, should I care to. I was hoping any experienced CLE owners could let me know what problems to look out for, or what common problems might be present, but not apparent. I am not familiar with rangefinders in general, or the CLE in particular, aside from what I've read on Cameraquest or found it the archives of Photo.net. On the surface the camera seems in great condition, and I plan on burning some film tonight to see results ASAP.
  10. I'm considering buying a Minolta CLE. After buying one from the used dept. of a very large NY company and discovering that it would not fire a flash at all (returned it and they said it would be too expensive to fix.), I'm paranoid about getting one in working condition. The particular one I'm considering only seems to fire the flash (it's the Minolta CLE flash) when set to the sync speed. This makes sense, but it won't fire the flash on the A setting. Is that correct? Any other advice/suggestions on what to look out for in a CLE? Thanks.
