The depth of field gives your image a painting quality to it. I love the tones and the nearly fanciful sky in the background. It is like one would picture an image of this part of the world in the mindls eye. Well done.

I like the angle of Hizzy at full tilt. Pretty good detail with not much light to work with.

Thanks for the kind words.

I know what you mean about catch fencing. Catch fencing also eliminates the use of flash as it just lights up the fence. The pros who had infield access were all using huge parabolic reflectors on raised flash kits with huge rapid rate batteries so they could shoot continuously with their flash. I had shot several rolls of Kodak Max Zoom 800 in daylight and was disapointed so I had stayed away from 800 speed film. A few guys recommended Fuji Superia 800 and I was impressed with the color and the detail that was captured. For C41 consumer film I thought it performed quite well. The relative dimness of the images is exactly how it looked inside the International Petroleum Expo building that night. And with the airborne dust it gives the impression of an underexposed image.
I found out that the requirements for a press pass are fairly lax for the Chili Bowl and I will try to get infield access next year.
I would love to own a high power parabolic flash but the things cost more than my current kit does and I just don't use it enough to warrant the cost.

I took these shots from trackside at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals
indoor race. The poor lighting and dust level encouraged the use of
Fuji Superia 800 and I thought they came out well. I could not fire
on full automatic as I had to manually focus my Rebel, its not just
fast enough on autofocus.
Let me know what you think.

Nice shot. Hard to tell if this is a real biplane or a model. Well done.

I snapped this image of a cheetah who finally came out from the shady
cover where he and his mates were nigh impossible to photograph. Any
comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think the ultra fast shutter speed works here because of the violence of the car broaching the curb and the spray from the track. Lowndes Falcon makes a great subject as well. Nice shot!

The bright sunlight was filtering through the translucent flag. I appreaciate the responses and I can see how it does bring feelings of nationalism over religion.
Once again thanks for the critique.

I bent down to take this image of a crucifix backlit in the early
morning sun and saw this. I did not take the image to enforce any
type of political agenda or religious orientation. But, I am
wondering what this holds for the viewer. Please no
political/religious rants.

This photo was taken in downtown Tulsa on a local catholic church.
This angel relief with shield stands guard over the main entrance to
the chapel. The image was taken around 1 hour after sunrise with
Kodak TMax 400. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this
better?

Very nice and fresh shot of one of the most photographed objects int he world. Well done.

I thought maybe it was tilted as well, until I noticed the clouds are in line crossing at an angle and it enforces the illusion of an angle. Lovely colors, maybe a little too dark in areas, but it is twilight.

I agree. The dark trees set the mood. The shadows chasing themselves across the landscape is very beautiful. Nice work.

The halo effect of backlighting hair is fantastic. this is an image that invokes childhood memeories in just about anyone. Beautiful photograph.

I love the contrast between the blades of the windmill and the stark white cylinder of its structure. Very nice.

The color of the light and the scene itself makes me expect to see the crew boarding at night for some secret mission. I like it.

The brooding sky and the foreboding scene are excellent. I wonder how it would have looked if the foreground was lit slightly more?

Nothing wrong with the shot. I like the concept of the Saab Viggen and the open sky. A tie in to Saab's Viggen interceptor aircraft. However, I think that for this type of image to work it must inform the viewer as to the product. Most people, auto enthusists included, would not know that this is a Saab. Possibly using a characteristic of the car that associated with the car or maker(ie: the non typical shape of the car itself). Many auto images work because of the emotional tug people get from seeing a Corvette crossed flag logo, or the characteristic 5 spoke wheel on a Ferrari, or the running horse insignia on a Mustang.

Thanks for the critiques. I can recrop the image as it is quite large and has far too much extraneous space around it. The camera only has a 3x optical zoom and the file is 1.3 megapixel.
Once again thanks for the comments. I do have some front quarter shoits of the Super 7. I will see about getting them posted.

I like the image. But my criticism is tainted because I am a big Franchitti fan. I like the composition of the blurred cars ahead and behind his more focussed Reynard. Nice. Gives the sensation of the speed into and out of the corner while showing the point of the apex.
Is this taken at the Andretti Hairpin?

I captured this image panning my Olympus D460Z P&S digital camera.
The image accurately shows a Lotus Super 7 club racer, but I think it
lacks the visual impact of a speeding racer. Any suggestions on what
I could have done to improve this?

This photo is from my first roll of Fuji Provia 100F slide film I
have shot. It was shot at f5.6 for 1/350 second and a circular
polarizer. The lighting was definitely not good but one must make do
when shooting events outdoors.
Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

As a huge racing fan I can easily see the focus of the pair. They are considering how much their hard work will net them at the race it seems to me. However, I can also see the confusion if the viewer is not a racing fan. An explanatory caption may be in order.

I took this picture through the glass enclosure at the Tulsa. I was
testing the macro mode on my camera at about 180mm zoom. Let me know
what you think.
