1.
Just to close the loop on this - it doesn't look like it was a site-wide problem, thankfully. In my case, it was only happening in Chrome (Safari and Firefox were fine). After my browsing history was cleared, all was well. To do this, you'd simply go up to the top right where the three horizontal lines are. Click Tools > Clear Browsing Data and then uncheck the boxes except for Cached Images and Files.

 2.
Was hoping it was a one-off when you first wrote a few days ago, Bela. Apparently it isn't, though I am wondering how many others are experiencing this. It is being looked at now - we are aware and will report back/ask more questions if need be. Pnina - I'm unclear if your issue is related to the initial thread title or something separate - are you getting error messages that Bela is getting? If not, it is better (in the future) to start a separate thread because it gets confusing.

 3.
Great responses here. If you mean gear, then just a camera. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. I've seen terrible photos with super fancy cameras...and really fantastic photos with lower-end cameras. If it is a DSLR, a general knowledge of of aperture, ISO, and shutter speed is helpful. Aside from that, a safe place for the camera (i.e. camera bag) is also on the must-have list, as is a memory card for that camera. Nice to have items would be a basic photo book (or a book based on what they enjoy...such as food photography or nature photography...) and Lightroom, but a beginner doesn't really need Lightroom either. Shout if you are looking for more specific answers.

 4.
Congrats to our winners of the June "Hero" contest. You can see all three winners and their photos here: http://www.photo.net/blog/post/2014/07/announcing-the-winners-of-the-hero-contest

Also, the July contest is live with the theme "Travel & Adventure" with prizes from Newegg and Photojojo. Click here for more information: http://www.photo.net/photo-contests/travel-adventure.

Good luck!

 5.
If you are already heading to the White Mountains, the vistas on the Kancamagus Highway are a must-see! There are other lovely towns to drive through in New Hampshire as well, such as Hancock and Peterborough in the lower part of the state - and certainly Portsmouth over on the coast. If you can make it up the Maine Coast, it is so beautiful! Bar Harbor/Acadia are probably a bit far, but well worth it. I found another article listing small towns in the NE to visit, including some visuals.
Hope you have a great time!

 6.
We attempted to start a POW thread a while back to share any recent mobile photos you want to share. I'm going to safely guess at least half of the photo.net audience owns a mobile phone and takes photos more and more frequently with it. I know I certainly end up taking a ton of photos with my iPhone because it is the camera that is always in my pocket. Let's each share our favorite from this past month!

 7.
I just downloaded VSCO Cam and I'm enjoying it very much. I use my iPhone to document my daily life (at this time, I'd never use it for shooting a wedding, serious food photography, or non-snapshot photos though more and more people are), so the picture aspect is important to me. I like the minimalist--yet pretty--processing. I'm also going to download Lightroom for iPhone as well, which was another recently announced product.

Cameleon and PicTapGo are other photo apps that I have and enjoy.

And then OF COURSE there is Pandora (music), Sudoku (many Sudoku apps), and MapMyRun (if you are a runner or walker), my three other favs!

 8.
Definitely not free, but KelbyOne will have videos (for a very reasonable monthly fee): http://kelbyone.com/.

CreativeLive is good too. For example, if you had a Nikon D610, they have a video that takes you through it for $29. https://www.creativelive.com/courses/nikon-d600-dslr-fast-start-john-greengo

I think you'll have a tough time finding a free video that is worth your time. It takes time and effort to produce a video and there aren't many that will simply give that away for free.

 9.
Rob - thanks for clarifying.

It would be useful to do some research regarding SEO - very good point.

I know there was a lot of buzz in February and lots of interest, particularly for photographers. Any other feedback or thoughts - let me know! If you have recently purchased a .photography or .photos URL (or plan to) and don't want to post here (and wouldn't mind chatting about it with me), drop me a line csthilaire@namemedia.com. I'd like to write an article about this.
