    Three trees

I've come back to look at this photo a few times and I've finally figured out what it is the I truly like about it - it's solitude! If you've ever had the pleasure of being out in the woods by yourself on a snowy day the quiet of the place can be disconcerting. It's as though you can hear the snow flakes falling to earth.

I like this photograph. It's well composed, simple, ethereal and evokes a sense of solitude and calmness. I particularly like the way the background mist gradually blends into the blue winter sky. I wouldn't change a thing.

Let me begin by quoting the elves: "Before writing a contribution to this thread, please consider our reason for having this forum: to help people learn about photography."
To that end, this POW has nothing to do with photography and everything to do with poorly implemented graphic artist skills. Enough with the graphic images on steroids!
Let's see some real photography in the POW forum; else I think I'm going to start feeling like a POW!

  1. I don't like this image - image because I can't bring myself to call it a photograph. It's actually an assembly of photographs and as an artistic image it fails because the light isn't consistent throughout. If you look at the small tree trunk to the right of the lighthouse its reflecting light on it's left side, while the stormy clouds are back lit from a source to the upper right. The more I look at it the more I feel manipulated.

There's such drama in the sky, it's deserves more of the frame. It might also be a more vibrant image by panning right slightly, putting the house on the 1/3 line, and also tilting up to put the horizon on one of the 1/3 lines. I would have gone for a lot more sky in this shot as there are some interesting lines leading from bottom left to top right -

    1. the line of cloud leading of the peak

    2. the road leading off to the right from the house

3 and a couple of more subtle lines
