  1. As Cartier Bresson said, "If the geometry is correct, the subject matter doesn't matter so much."

Great geometry in this photo John and great subject matter too.

When these things combine, special things happen.

    Thanks for sharing

As I look through the critique section, I'm always looking for something of quality to attract me. (Sometimes difficult!) This frame oozes quality. From the angle of shooting, the tonal elements, historical value, subject matter; this picture flies within all these criterion.

All the best with future project and returning to past ones.

    Regards

I love the lomo effect here. Also the strong black and white elements with limited greys add to the effect. Was it taken with a lomo camera? A great shot

  2. In my opinion this is the stongest photo in the set. The light works so so well, and the light that has caught the water has helped produce a complete image. Without it, it may have turned out a little flat. I also like the way the light has caught the flag. The darkness with light coming in very gently has added a great emotion value.

All in all I thought the set was good, not really my thing but I certainly enjoyed looking at your perspective for a while.

    All the best, David

  3. Hey Donna, I've just spent a great hour or so looking through your portfolios and they are great. There were too many to comment on and so I chose this one for today, as it really stood out to me. I'm a Rolleiflex user and so I loved the square format here. It really helps frame the woman in an awkward but beautiful way. Just my kind of thing! The low f stop has helped the woman to come to the fore of the picture, otherwise she may have got lost in the background. And the texture of her jumper creates a great contrast to her face and the background. I think it's a picture that doesn't tell the truth about the woman, but leaves us curious as to who and how she actually is. She has such an interesting face and the way you've captured her look is great. One negative, sorry, but maybe the face is a little over-exposed, or more mid tone is needed?? But that's just me. I think that would get more detail in her face.

A great photo! I love it. All the best in the future and enjoy your trips onto the streets!!!   David
