Whether accidental or intentional; the use of 'reversal' in the composition is fairly effective (a very prominent element in the foreground which is out of focus). It creates a lot of unpleasant visual movement, which works well in this case, as nothing about this photo is supposed to be pleasing. The woman's expression is a tad off. I would like a slightly sadder look (to me it appears as she's about to smile). Also her hand is in a very unnatural position. The overall tonality isn't great but I suppose there's not much one could do about it shooting digitally, especially with something like the D80. This picture would have looked so much better had it been taken in direct sunlight. All in all, anyone who is even half-serious about photography would consider this piece 'serious work'. A bit of advice for the future: When including the subject's/model's hands, one has to pay extra attention as those can make or break any photo. The hands always have to look 'right' in the context.

    Way to nowhere

I would like to see slightly more contrast in this one. For a much more dynamic picture consider mirroring the image (example enclosed). The rules of composition actually dictate to leave it as is but check out for yourself. When mirrored it creates a lot of visual movement as apposed to being fairly static. A powerful piece either way.
