1.
I found a photographer online the other day who had 3,800 likes on her FB Photography page. She's advertising that she uses a 5.5 million studio. And then I saw her images. EEK. I just can't believe what people will spend money on!

 2.
I've had amazing luck with every Canon Ae-1 that I've used. I have three at the moment, one was from my father's days as a yearbook photographer in highschool. His was kept in pristine condition and works perfectly.

I might suggest searching Etsy.com. I know that there are many photographers that sell their extra gear on the site and have tested it to see if it is in working order.

 3.
I've used YP and while it was easy to set up, I've not generated any leads from it. To actually show up on the first page of results you must pay a monthly ad/design fee. It wasn't worth my time. When I Google "local photographers" yellow pages is hardly in the first results to provide listings.

 4.
When I hand over the images, they do not come with my watermark. My watermark is placed on the digital files that are available for viewing online. I've learned the hard way to make the watermark visible and uncroppable. My mother-in-law is a former photog. She was recently married and took screen shots of the images that her wedding photog posted in the viewing gallery. She managed to download them on her phone, crop the watermark, and then edit them with some app on her phone. She then posted them to Facebook. This made for some horrible quality images. She knows better! But what I'm getting at is that clients will go to any length to immediately share or view their images with family members on social networking sites.

I don't give clients raw files, I've found that the clients who ask for the files to print on their own, usually print through a site that only accepts images under a certain size/res. limit.

I process all images that are turned over to the clients. And the contract states that they are not allowed to edit the images after they get them. You would be suprised to hear that I run into that all too often.
I try to give the clients their disc as soon as I'm finished. Brides are antsy!!

 5.
I'm upgrading computers today. I've been working with a Toshiba Satellite laptop and I'm purchasing a Dell desktop. The Best Buy's in the area no longer sell desktops with anything but Windows 8 (Microsoft has pushed them to sell off anything older than Windows 8). I've considered buying a refurbished desktop from a smaller store but they don't carry a warranty, which is why I'm drawn to Best Buy.

I currently edit with Lightroom, version 3.6. My laptop has minimal capacity and is a 2gb ram, 500 gb hard drive, 32 bit system. It runs on Windows Vista.

If I upgrade to a desktop with Windows 8, 64 bit system, will I need to upgrade or even repurchase Lightroom so that it is compatible with my new system?

 6.
Can anyone help me acquire photoshop? I can't justify spending that amout of money and my free trial has expired. I am a beginning photographer and don't really have the income to support that kind of purchase right now.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

 7.
I don't know what type of photography you will specialize in but I may have a few tips.
Prove that you are helping the community through your work. Offer discounted portrait building sessions. When I did a few of these, local parents wanted to know where their friends had their photos done and how much. Its a trickle down effect and it just takes time. Offer sessions for silent auctions for non-profits in the community.
Partner with small business to help them capture and advertise what they offer. For example, I had an friend who does those jewelry parties. I shot one of her parties to help her advertise her goods. She is now a realtor and I'm shooting her real estate property.

 8.
I'm looking to experiment with newborn/infant photograph with by best friends 6 month old. I've never done this type of photography so I need some pointers. We will be shooting in September so it may be cool enough to shoot outside. If so, is there a way that one can achieve good images in an outdoor setting? I've only really seen infant shoots done in a studio.

Also, if she chooses to have them in her home, will my equipment be suitable? Please don't judge because I don't know what all is included but I was gifted a used Novatron set with 2 heads and the umbrellas and all. Is this sufficient for an in home newborn shoot?
