thanks everyone! i plan to use this lens as a night time walk around lens or street shooting. I love my 50 but sometimes, especially at night, a wider field of view is very useful. any tips?

i have a 50 1.2 and other lenses
I don't bring my excellent 16-35 unless I'm sure I need it. I want a 24L or a 35L, and to buy it I would sell my 24-70
since i have a 50, perhaps a 35 would be too close to each other that I wouldn't need it so I'm contemplating a 24
and because the 24 mk 2 is a newer lens
I'm not going to wait for the 35 mk2 because i think it'll be a bit out of budget
please help thanks,

16-35 and a 50
i have a similar kit to you, but when I went to the Philippines, I only took a 50 1.2 and got some amazing shots. When I was at the beach, I felt like I could use a wider field of view so I regretted not taking my 16-35 but a wide zoom and a fast prime is what you need, especially in southeast asia

I own a 16-35 and a 50. I have my telephotos covered and not interested in the 85 1.2.
With the 50 1.2 should i purchase the 35 1.4 or the 24 1.4 taking into account i have the 16-35. I use the 16-35 mainly at 16.

Anyone have any tips for the grand canyon?
I did some brief searching and found the N.Rim is better than the S.Rim? Is that true?
Also which lenses to bring?
8-15mm Fisheye no filter
16-35 f/2.8 II no ND
24-70 f/2.8 with ND
50 1.2 with ND
100 f/2.8 IS Macro
Is the macro handy at the grand canyon?
I've decided to bring the fisheye and the 16-35 because theyre very wide...but curious if I should also bring the 24-70 for the ND?

I used to have the 7D but I sold it to purchase the 100L macro
I currently use only the 5D Mkii and the only SLIGHT drawback I have with it is the autofocus
I didnt have a problem with the autofocus UNTIL i used the 7D's
after i used the 7D's and went back to the 5d's I felt like i was missing out on a lot...
It haven't necessarily lost too many of the "moments" but focus and recompose is slightly annoying with the 9-point af system vs the i believe 19(?) of the 7D
Since you've used the 30D i'm sure you've used the 9 point system and know what its like
Also, I had alot of overlapping focal lengths because at the time I had a 16-35L f2.8 50L f1.2 and a 70-300L
so at times I didnt really know which lens to put on which body when I went out because from 16-35 on a full frame then a jump to 85 with the 50 on a crop sensor kind of left a big gap..
I don't regret having sold the 7D or using the 5D II
but in a few years time, I'm going to upgrade to the 5D III when there is a used copy
If I were you, I would upgrade BUT only if it's in your budget..don't go completely out of your way to upgrade from a 7D to a 5D ii
I did because I wasnt using the back-up body at all..
+it looks cooler to have a 5d II :)

thank you everyone for these responses!
im still holding out on purchasing a lens until the second week of july
but I think i'm just going to purchase the 24 1.4 in place of the 24-70
i like what Peter E mentioned of keeping both but budget cant keep up haha
thanks again everyone

the lens i purchased was the 100 f/2.8L IS USM
its cheap for an L lens and the 180 is expensive, heavy, with the maximum aperture of 3.5
I recommend the 100 f2.8L if u cant afford it im sure the 100 f2.8 non-L will suit you just fine

i purchased the 580 ex ii before it was discontinued but after the 600ex rt was released because of my budget
i dont have any drawbacks with it and i'm planning to purchase one or two 430 ex's as slave units
i'm planning to fire the 430's just through line of sight, but if i don't want to or can't, i would just purchase pocket wizard wireless transmitters

in my opinion the 35 1.4L
i haven't used it personally, but I've used the focal length on my zooms
the fast aperture will be good for interiors and i think 35mm will be wide enough
u should try a 24 prime too to see if you want a little wider shot
what i did for wide angle was get the 16-35 f2.8 (amazing lens)
i don't recommend using wide angle focal length for portraits
what I did was get the 24-105 before I got my primes then i upgraded it to the 24-70
i suggest the 24-70 for an all around 1-lens kit

I have a 16-35 f/2.8L ii and a 24-70 f/2.8
I don't use the 24-70 at all...and although i really like the 16-35, I could use the IQ of a prime and the fast aperture when indoors....
and I'm planning to sell both of them for either the 24 1.4L ii or the 35 1.4L
i'm steering clear of the 14mm f/2.8 I think would have too much distortion if I don't shoot level and the big price tag
I really like shooting wide at 16...so I'm thinking of perhaps selling both for just the TS-E17 f/4
and not cover the 24 and 35mm focal length range
..
I shoot a lot of everything so I'm slightly leaning away from the TS-E since its a manual focus lens or wait to buy it later....
Perhaps a 17-40 and a 24 prime...
I'm in a dilemma..
other lenses I own are 8-15 f/4L fisheye, 50 1.2L, 100mm 2.8L Macro
I use a 5d Mk2
can anybody help?
