1.
To correct a point about Minolta SLRs: Lenses are not interchangeable across all series. I happily used SR-T 101, SR-T 102, SR-T 200 for about 35 years. However, when Minolta came out with the Maxxum, I found that I would need a whole new set of lenses. The SR-T lenses did not work on Maxxum cameras and vice-versa.
I'm now using a Nikon F and F-3 (and digital D1 and D300) and, with few exceptions, lenses are interchangeable. Nikon got it right.
I have a fondness for folding cameras, and use a 2x3 Linhof Technika IV, a Century Graphic and two Voigtlander Avuses.

 2.
Actually, the defect can be seen in the first, third, fifth and seventh pictures.

 3.
Problems with the lens
I received the lens (link) and it has two problems: 1. It's focal length is 150mm, not 105mm; and 2. Something seems to be wrong with the lens.

The defect can be seen in the last picture of the listing. It appears behind the first lens, and looks like brassing or worn paint on a metal object. It goes all the way (360 degrees) around. Any idea what it is and how important a defect it is?
I'm negotiating with the seller either to send him the lens for a full refund, or keep the lens for a discount. He's offered $100 back; I'll try to go for $150 back. If I want it with the defect. Note: 150mm lenses go for $125. and up on eBay.

 4.
So, which lensboard should I get? For such high-end equipment, I don't want to cut corners on the lensboard. So that rules out the cheap Chinese knockoffs. Now, about the ridge. Several of these lensboards have a circular ridge, and some are in different places. So, is any ridge required and if so, which?
The lensboard on the Carl Zeiss lens currently on the camera does not have any ridges.

 5.
Here's the lens: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Excellent-Schneider-Kreuznach-Symmar-S-105mm-F-5-6-Multicoating-Lens-/222041232802?
As for lensboard, why the circular ridge on (link) ?
Other lensboards:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Copal-0-or-1-lensboard-lens-board-for-6x9-2x3-Linhof-Technika-IV-4-V-5-70-/141372826546?hash=item20ea7a23b2:g:EqkAAOSw8lBTqrB6
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Linhof-Technika-6x9-Camera-lens-board-3-pcs-for-shutter-0-1-/172120220894?hash=item28132a24de:g:tlcAAOSwh-1W1sbs
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Linhof-Technika-23-6x9-lens-board-Copal-0-34-6mm-Condition-5E-1628-/231845346446?hash=item35fb0f3c8e:g:H74AAOSwT6pVmEag
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Copal-0-or-1-lensboard-lens-board-for-6x9-2x3-Linhof-Technika-IV-4-V-5-70-/361475305118?hash=item54299b6e9e:g:wScAAOxyBjBTSeLC
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TECHNIKA-LINHOF-CAMERA-LENS-BOARD-WITH-ENAMELED-LOGO-35mm-COPAL-0-/361496765981?hash=item542ae2e61d:g:GecAAOSwll1WzM6B ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Copal-0-or-1-lensboard-lens-board-for-6x9-2x3-Linhof-Technika-IV-4-V-5-70-/141372826546?hash=item20ea7a23b2:g:EqkAAOSw8lBTqrB6

 6.
How about this lens? http://www.ebay.com/itm/182040986490?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
What size lensboard? 0? 1?

 7.
David,
Check. This lensboard is 96mm x 98mm and the 23 Linhof Technika IV lensboard is smaller than that, about 7_cm x 8_cm.
I'll keep on the lookout.

 8.
How about this lens?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/322022852086?euid=0d530625e3c94c02be5f43c13a0350e2&cp=1&exe=13926&ext=35632&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext
The seller wrote, "The dimensions of this board is 96mm x 98mm.
The shutter is Synchro-Compur."
So, I would have to find a 2x3 Linhof Technika IV lensboard. Once I do, can I readily install it or would I need a technician?
Oh, do I need a Compur 0, 1, etc. lensboard?

 9.
... using a non-AI lens ...

 10.
Correction: you can use stop-down metering on the F3HP using a AI lens.

 11.
Yes, you can install the non-AI lens on the F3HP and you can take pictures, but you can't use the camera's light meter to determine exposure.
Let alone the D1 and D300.
Dan

 12.
Actually, I'm a fan of non-AI. I can use it on my Nikon F but not F3HP, D1 nor D300.
Dan

 13.
Here's one image. There is another one.

 14.
How do I insert an image??? Photo.net wants a URL and I have the picture only in a file.

 15.
Gil Gitelman provided pictures and a serial number, 3802059. According to Braczko, Complete Nikon System, this lens was made from April, 1976 to September, 1981 and is non-AI. No wonder it’s so cheap.
KEH said they could not get the serial number!
I’ve requested the serial number and pictures from B&H and from Adorama, but haven’t received a response yet.

 16.
Thanks for all this useful information.
The camera works with the current lens. It's just that its not synchronized for flash and I want to upgrade the lens to a 6 element one. I have two other cameras, a Voigtlander Avus and a Century Graphic, with lenses and shutters, but that wouldn't be a lens upgrade.
I think I'll wait until I can afford a lens upgrade.
Meanwhile, a question about CLA. I have never done a CLA on any of my equipment except that a Nikon lens body was repaired. Should I do CLAs?
My equipment is cameras: Nikon F, Nikon F3HP, Nikon D300, Linhof Technika IV 23, Century Graphics and two Voigtlander Avuses. In addition to one lens for each camera, I have a bunch of Nikon 35mm prime lenses. Do I regularly perform CLAs on all cameras and lenses, just the lenses, or what?

 17.
Edward Ingold: On my lens, which I'm selling on eBay for $178.50, the aperture dial gets stuck above about f/5.6. Nikon quoted me $79-$200 to fix it.

 18.
I’m in the market for this lens. It would replace the 50mm f/1.2 I have which is not working. I’ve shopped around with the following results:
Grays of Westminster, MINT-, newer focusing ring, AIS, $395.24 = £285
KEH Camera, Like New -, EX+, newer focusing ring, AIS, $238
B&H, 9, newer focusing ring, $289.95
Gil Ghitelman Camera, near mint, AI, with shade, $135.

Ghitelman has the best price for near mint lenses, but their price is half, or even less, of the other sellers. I wrote to Gil and he replied: “Can’t explain the other guys pricing. If you would feel more comfortable I could raise the price by about $75.” A price this low is too good to be true. I asked him: “Why is your price so much less than from the other stores, less than half their prices? All are in near mint condition. Is it because your lens is AI and theirs is AIS? Is it because of the lens shade?
By the way, what difference would AIS as opposed to AI make when used on the following cameras: Nikon F, Nikon F3HP, Nikon D300, Nikon D1?”
He replied: “Can’t explain the other guys pricing. If you would feel more comfortable I could raise the price by about $75. AI lenses work fine on F3HP and earlier. I don’t know about digital. Suggest you Google it.”
So what’s going on? Has anyone had experience with Gil Ghitelman which might shed some light on this?
By the way, I’ve had some bad experiences with used equipment from B&H.
So, I guess I’m asking about these sellers and about this lens.
Dan

 19.
Here's another idea: My current lens/shutter is Carl Zeiss Jena s/n 1205552 Tessar f/4.5 10.5cc; Compur Nagel.
How about if I keep the lens (4 elements, right?) and replace the shutter. If so, how do I (or a technician) do it? Where do I get a suitable shutter? Or, could a technician synchronize the Compul Nagel shutter I now have?

 20.
I called FotoCare and they told me it would be rare for them to have a 10.5cm lens. They might have 4x5 lenses, but they would be a minimum of 160mm. B&H and Adorama were closed for Shabbos.
Shopping for this lens is difficult!
Danek

 21.
I checked the web pages for FotoCare, B and H and Adorama and none of them had anything. :-(
Les: check your messages.

 22.
Where to find lenses for Linhof Technika 2x3 6x9 Technika IV

Please excuse my incomplete original post.
I bought this camera on eBay. It’s current lens and shutter are: Carl Zeiss Jena s/n 1205552 Tessar f/4.5 10.5cc; Compur Nagel. The cam does not have the lens nor camera serial numbers (81848) but I can live with that because I prefer ground glass focusing to rangefinder focusing.
I want a shutter having electronic flash synchronization and I would like a lens that is more like an original lens.
Yes, I’m aware of eBay opportunities but eBay doesn’t have anything right now and I would also like to see what used dealers have. A place like KEH or B&H, but neither of them have anything now. I'm in NYC but can shop by internet.
Thank you,
Kaliuzhkin
