Hi All
Has anyone bought a sigma gray market lens in the US and tried it on their cameras? I am eyeing a good deal on this lens, just not sure whether to pull the trigger and buy. Uncertain about the warranty and moreover any compatibility issues. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

D700 repair
in Nikon

Thanks for your response. I have taken a few test shots but hard to tell if the mount is off alignment or not. I will get nikon to run their diagnostics just to be sure nothing is broken internally. No external damage. The camera fell lens first.
-
D700 repair
in Nikon

Misfortune of misfortunes!. I dropped my camera whilst taking it off the tripod. The 35-70 lens broke clean off. Fortunately, the bayonet was still fixed on the camera. Just loved the lens and the camera. The camera still works!!. After several moments of palpitation, I came to and tested the D700 and the focus is still good. thank god. The memory card door broke off. I need to get it fixed. Can I take it to Nikon repair in el segundo? I hate to pack and ship it. I would also like to get diagnostics done on the camera just to make sure every things ok. Please advise.
-

Thank you all for the input. I will take a pack of desiccants and yes, the idea of airing out by JDM makes sense.

Hello all
I am planning a trip to asia during july. Will be traveling through fair to extremely humid regions from what I have gathered from the travel brochures. Can you advise me on how to protect the camera lenses? I am planning on buying desiccants (other postings mention this). However, any additional tips would be useful. I am not sure what would encourage fungus/mold build up. A little apprehensive.
Thanks

Anybody place an order with the Nikon Store within the last 10 days or so? I did for a D700 and Nikon customer service seems clueless as to when they will ship. For a vertically integrated business this seems ludicrous. My suspicion is that either their system is trashed or they are low on inventory.

Hello All
I am going to check a used 35-70 nikkor AF-D 2.8 lens. Have been reading in the forum that this lens is prone to fogging. What is a permanent lens fogging? It seems that shining a light through is the way to detect it (same as fungus). Does this soften the light shining through? What should I be looking for? Feedback's greatly appreciated.

To be more accurate, and perhaps this might be considered "nit-picking", you don't actually stop down the lens to f/22. You just move the aperture ring to the f/22 (minimum) setting to get the mechanical hard stop "out of the way" to allow the camera to control aperture movement limits. :)

Thanks. I was puzzling over that anomaly. It seemed contradictory that I am "stopping" down the lens but magically somehow the camera could shoot at a larger aperture!. That's a good explanation.

Thanks!!

Hello
I am in the process of bargain hunting full frame lenses (80-200 AF-D 2 ring)for a upcoming purchase of a D700. I have a D5000 camera. Knowing that I cannot shoot in auto, I would like to find out what I can do to test a used lens? OR is there no reliable way to check the lens with a D5000?
Second question: I tested an older AF-D (single ring) I had to stop down the aperture to f22 and then use my camera to set the aperture. Is this what I need to do to take pictures? Otherwise I was getting a FEE error. Any feedback/advise would be much appreciated.
