1.
"Absolutely nothing wrong with taking more but it really makes a difference to the shutter count."
I know folks who set their cameras to bracket 2 shots all the time, for every shot. Right there they have tripled the number of shutter actuations they will have on their cameras.

  2.
I also agree with Wouter. The 18-140 goes for about $500 by itself, but right now you can get it bundled with a brand new D7000 from BB for $629 (while they last). You could pick up this kit and sell the D7000 body to help pay for the 18-140 if you are inclined to do that sort of thing.

  3.
Sidecar files now are included with View NX 2.10.2?

"When image files are moved, copied, or deleted in ViewNX 2, sidecar files associated with the image files are now also moved, copied, or deleted along with image files. However, when image files are moved or copied to destinations outside of ViewNX 2, such as the desktop, sidecar files associated with the images files will not be moved or copied accordingly."

  4.
(Sorry - I don't want to hijack this thread, but this question seems to fit well with Tim's and keeps the related topics in one thread.)
What about bodies? Any special refurb considerations vs. lenses? For example, I'm thinking about picking up a refurb D7000 which are pretty old now. Should I expect that the refurbs that are left probably will have high shutter actuations and show more wear than they might have a year or two ago? Should this be a consideration for getting a refurb D7100 instead?
Thanks!

It's Hogan's last paragraph at the link you provided that caught my attention. If for some reason you have to reinstall NX2 but it can't check in with Nikon to confirm your license nothing else matters after that, right? Doesn't matter if NX2 recognizes your camera, or if NX2 still runs on some future version of the OS, etc., . . .
6.
"I am sure you will enjoy your D600 and living in Australia, you will probably be past 10,000 shots before January is up."

Just remember to rotate your camera 180 degrees before you start shooting. :)

  7.
I'm right-handed and left eye dominant, however the left eye is weaker than the right one. On top of that, I wear glasses which pushes my left eye away from the viewfinder. I have tried to train my right eye to work with cameras but it hasn't gone well. :(

    " . . . It delivers great IQ on a D800, so I don't see why it shouldn't work equally well, or better, on a D90.
I'm puzzled how any lens could have such a drastic effect on exposure as 10x. Was the reported aperture different from the actual one or what? IMO it says more about Nikon's unfathomable matrix metering system than about Tamron's design ability."
The exposure problems I read about were approximately 2-stops under exposure when using matrix metering and 1-stop when using center weighted metering. The problem seemed to manifest itself more on the D90 than other Nikon bodies. Tamron was aware of the problem, acknowledged it, and had a fix for it if you sent the lens to them. At least this is what lots of folks said in assorted forums, mostly in 2010 - 2011, but also as recently as mid-2012.

Has Tamron fixed the exposure issues their 70-300 VC lens had on the D90?
I'm looking at both the Nikkor 70-300 VR and the Tamron 70-300 VC to use with my D90. After too much research I'm leaning toward the Tamron because it has a $100 rebate that makes the price difference between it and the Nikkor even greater.
BUT - it seems the D90, in particular, suffered from exposure issues with this Tamron lens.
I haven't found anything in the way of feedback from folks who have paired up recent copies of Tamron's 70-300 with a D90 to know if they fixed these exposure issues.
Can anyone comment?
Thanks!
