  1. First of all, congratulations of taking this great shot. I've learned to check your portfolio for great photos of which I can learn and once again you've provided one. Thank you.

The comments about digital manipulation made me curious. I don't think the sky is from some other shot - way too often great photos are blemed to be digitally manipulated at this digital era. But I think I know what caused the doubt here. If you have a close look on the edge of the mountains and the sky you'll notice there are bright borders like two lines contouring the massives - something very commonly seen on photos which have been sharpened a tad too much. I'm not sure if that is the case here, if I remember correctly G1 has sharpening option under it's menues.

But of the photo, it's 7/7.

It is nice how the flame glows, that is well captured. However there's bit too much contrast for my taste and the person doesn't stand out of the background too well. Interesting shot.
  2. This shot made me laugh because it made a trick on me. The colors and the rythmical black stipes are such that my first impression was this photo has been taken in Sahara or other desert. I wonder if they need wires to keep dynes erect! Anyway, wonderful color and those stripes are just great. I like this a lot.

Mysterious thing crawling from the sea. I think the tilted horizont is a nice touch. It makes the shot more dynamic and strenghtens the movement of that thing. Unfortunately colors are bit dull, maybe becasue a overcast day (was it). Interesting.
  3. Thanks for your comment. I think you had interesting point there. Showing more of the cradle would emphasie it's emptyness, that's true.

Hope you'll enjoy your time at Helsinki. Have you're camera ready, there's lot to shoot at.

  4. Thank you for another excellent comment.

The original is a slide and the scanner I used was a very poor quality. It is easy to blame tecnique when one's own skills fail. =) I'm frustrated with the jpeg compression here. It makes the skin look terrible. Not much PhotoShopping was done and I tried to keep jpeg compression low but apparently it failed. For me this shot looks like heavy compression sneaked in at some point of the prosess. Have to be more careful in the future. I have had similar problems with this particular scanner before so maybe it is some of the options I'm not using correctly.

Turning it B&W and digitally toning - hmm, I think I'll give it a try.

    Thanks for your comment!

First of all, thank you very much for constructive critic. I appriciate it a lot and find it very helpful.

Funny you mentioned this picture is worth of rescuing. Well I quess I felt the same because I returned to the subject. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1336303

Those outlines at edges of the black structures are result of too much sharpening I guess. I'm not too happy with them either. They make the shot look sloppy snapshot. The original was very small so at some point I went to a wrong direction while trying to make most out of it.

What comes to cropping the black rectangle at the top, I totally missed the idea. I think you have excellent point there. Still doesn't the mood of the shot change dramatically lighter if the dark area is cropped? The more I look the cropped version the more I like it. Thank you for opening this door for me!

The combination of dark woods, red textile like surface and the wonderful eyes makes this shot very mysterious like a warm night at woods. This photo evokes mixed feelings of safe, anticipation and danger. Very well done.

  5. I like the simplicity and purity of your expression. "We belong together", yet there are three trees. Three makes crowd. The symbology makes me curious. Is it a family of trees or two lovers and one lony tree - maybe an older one (the size hints this) whos companion has fallen already. Very interesting picture. I must say I specially like those black traw lines. Good work!
  6. There's so much in your images it takes good long look to even scratch the surface. Yes this is where we've come to, babies in the boxes. If I don't like the one I got I'll trash it. We all are products after all. I really enjoy your work.
  7. My first impression was this must be some sort of medical docment. Then I found the fiery eye in the black hart. There's something uneasy and even evil in this work. Very strong image. 10/10

I really like this shot but as mentioned that railing doesn't fit in. How about cropping out the left edge and making it square? Still, well done!

I wish baby's look would be focused on the sphere but of course it's easier to say than do. On the other hand now it looks like if it is really tiring maybe even painful to greate or hold on that sphere. All the bad we have done (s)he has to bear. Very interesting. Good work!

No mutta tattista. :) Itsekkään en ole mikään PS fani mutta jotenkin sitä huomaa pikkuhiljaa ajautuvansa kokeilemaan sen tarjoamia mahdollisuuksia. Mutta filmissä on sitä tunnelmaa.
