1.
Hello All
I'm scanning a role of medium format film for my school project. I'm scanning with an EpsonV500 at 2400dpi. I'm wondering what is the biggest print size I can make from these negatives? Lets say if I'm printing at 700 dpi or 300 dpi for example.
My negative is 5256x5256 pixels

 2.
So the shoot was great, I'm happy with the results. As soon as i do some editing i will post up the results here. Thanks to everyone who helped out and gave me tips.
I have one last question. I need to make a large print of the image. My file is 4096x6144 at 300 dpi. I assume with that the highest I can go is 13x20. Is there anyway to make a larger print out of this without losing information and quality?

 3.
Thanks Michael,
Yes i'm a photography student. We are learning basic in-studio flash use, but i wanted to go above what was expected and do something different and just push myself.
I got colourmagic LEE filters today which i will be using. Not sure which one i should be using since I'm not very familiar with filters.
I was thinking of not using my alienbees and just going with the speedlite and attaching the filter on speedlite and have someone hold the speedlite close to the models face or place is somewhere so it doesn't show up in the picture. And with your last tip, do you mean i should just take a picture of the background without flash and without the model, then take another picture with the model using the flash. And combine the two on photoshop paint around the model?
And please do let me know which filter i should be using on my speedlite. These are the filters in the kit.
FULL CTB, THREE QUARTERS CTB, FULL CTO, THREE QUARTERS CTO, 0.15 NEUTRAL DENSITY, 0.3 ND. 0.6 ND, 0.9 ND
And thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it.

 4.
Thanks for the response Michael. I have a soft box but i dont have a grid. Not sure if there is any other way around it. Would using aluminum foil around the light work (without the softbox)? Basically directing light into a spot on the models face and upper body? I can't really think of anything else. I will see if i can get a flashlight tomorrow. So you basically use the flash light to light up the face of the model right?
But lets say I get a reading of 3 seconds at f5.6 for the background. Wouldn't lighting the model face with the flashlight make her face blurry if she moves? This won't happen with the flash right? since its more strong. I'm not sure if thats how it works.
So what i will do is try different setups. I will first try to bounce the light of the ceiling as someone already mentioned and also use a reflector to direct more light into models face.
If that doesn't go well I will probably shoot with my speedlite and see how that turns out.
I was thinking of shooting one with soft box as well but i think the alienbees will be too strong. We will see how that goes.
I have a soft box and an umbrella. No grids/gels. I probably have to get some for future projects.
Any other suggestions?

 5.
Thank you guys
I will try these steps. I'm not very familiar with gels and i'm not sure where to get them before the shoot. And This is for a classroom project. So basically what i gathered from your responses is that i should try the speedlite and also try the flash behind the camera on bouncing on the ceiling? I will try these two options. Any other suggestions?

 6.
Hello Everyone
In couple of days I will be shooting a mythology assignment inside a restaurant. What i have to do is basically mimic a scene from a Cleopatra movie. Here are couple of pictures from the restaurant.
http://www.tzoo-img.com/images/tzoo.p.local.51013.berber.jpg
http://www.tsevents.com/enews/current/images/150.jpg
I only have a 1600 alienbees and a Canon 580 EX. I'm wondering how i can produce an image that has lighting similar to these pictures.
http://www.tsevents.com/enews/current/images/150.jpg
http://www.gildastryst.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/ss11-Lifestyle-2-card.jpg

I want some of the colours from the restaurant itself. Like the reds and stuff. So i don't want the light to overpower the atmosphere a lot. I want it to be more focused on the model itself.
Any ideas how i can pull this off?
Since I only have 30 minutes in the restaurant, I want to have some practice and a good idea of what i will be doing before i get there.

 7.
Wow you guys are right I have no idea why i thought its 100$. It's actually $74. Still very expensive in my opinion.
I will order later on tonight from KEH. Just wondering what is the difference between the different lenses. CF, CFE, C, CB, F lenses? And as for the backs i should be looking at 12 backs for 120 film? Any other thing i should keep in mind?

 8.
What is the difference between CF, CFE, C, DB, F lenses?
I'm trying to put together a kit on keh but I'm not sure what lens i should get for the 500cm body.
Also is there a big difference between stuff rated EX and EX+ on Keh?

 9.
Thanks Andy
I actually wanted a 503cw for a long time since I had a plan to get a digital back later on when my budget allows me. But i posted on this forum and I had a lot of people saying I should first get the 500cm and later on , when im done school i can then upgrade.
To answer your question i prefer prism finder since thats what i'm using on my Mamiya.

 10.
I might be able to order it from keh and have it shipped to my sisters house in New Jersey, that way i don't pay $100 shipping and I jus pick it up whenever i visit her.
I tried making my own 500cm on keh and it comes down to $1,241.00
500CM CHROME LATE WITHOUT WAISTLEVEL MEDIUM FORMAT SLR MANUAL FOCUS CAMERA BODY = EX $265
80 F2.8 CF T*(B60) MEDIUM FORMAT SLR MANUAL FOCUS STANDARD ANGLE LENS = LN- $645
A12 CHROME BACK = EX+ $179
WAISTLEVEL BLACK LATE (42323) = EX+ $159

 11.
thanks guys for the tips
i have been working with MF before mostly my beloved Mamiya C330 that i still love and shoot with all the time but no experience with Hasselblads.
how much would a clean, ex+ condition 500cm cost?

 12.
The problem with getting it off Craiglist would be the fact that I'm not very knowledgable about what exactly i need to check when buying the camera. So if there is a problem with it, I have wasted all my money on something thats not working and I'm a student and very tight on budget. Even with Ebay you can at least see some reviews about the seller. I have had bad experience getting things of Craiglist.

 13.
Thanks Andy. I totally forgot about Used Store at B&H and Adorama. I will check out. Just wondering how much would a good condition hasselblad 500cm cost? I made my own body kit on KEH and it came down to $1200 which I think is a lot. The body i chose costed ~300, lens ~600 and back and viewfinder ~250 combined.

 14.
Thanks Russ, but this post is about someone wanting to sell a Hasselblad, i really didn't find much information about where to purchase except some information on KEH, and as i said KEH is not a good option since they charge a lot to ship where i live.

 15.
I'm planning on purchase a Hasselblad 500cm, I'm not sure what the ideal price is for a 500cm in good condition. Keh isn't a good choice for me since they charge $100+ shipment to where i live. I have seen some 500cms on Ebay but they seem overpriced. I live in Toronto, Canada, I'm not sure if there any local sellers here. I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out or at least send me some links from Ebay that seem to be asking for a reasonable price.
P.S I also have a Mamiya C330 I want to get CLA'd here in Toronto. Does anyone know a repairman that specializes in Mamiya cameras?

Cheers

 16.
I purchased a Pentax K1000 from a camera show and I wasn't sure what type of batteries I need for it. So i searched on google and found out that I need to get the Energizer 357 battery for it. So i purchased some batteries and it seems like these are the wrong batteries for my camera. First of all the battery compartment on the bottom of my camera looks way bigger than what the 357 battery i got for it. Did i get the wrong batteries?

Thanks in advance

 17.
well it seems the guys just made 60$ off me. The camera is not working. I really dont know how i didn't notice that when you press the shutter the blades are all sticky and don't open and close like they should. It also doesn't make a noticeable click sound like it should. I really don't know how much CLA costs for these things or if i can even fix this camera. Bad idea going to camera a show and purchasing a camera for your school without actually testing it.

 18.
I just got a Canon G-III QL from a camera show, I'm not sure what battery it takes. Does anyone know where i can get the battery from and what size it is? there is a rectangle battery chamber at the bottom of the camera.

I bought the camera for $60 and it looks in a very good condition. Not sure if it was a good deal but i don't mind paying any money for any type of film camera.

 19.
I really can't decide! I have been shooting with a Mamiya C330 for the past 4 years and I have gotten some great results with it.
Most of the work on my website http://www.viiphotography.com is shot with my Mamiya C330. I just feel the need to change and get a new gear. I mostly want to shoot fashion, portraits (mostly outdoors)
I just love the vintage look to my portraits when shot with a medium format. I'm really not sure if I'm making a wise choice getting a Hasselblad 503CW. I don't want to make any rushed decisions which I will regret later on. I want to see what choices, I have and what camera would best suit my needs.
Any opinions?

 20.
A friend of mine also suggested two other cameras; Mamiya 645 and Mamiya 7
So basically I can either go with the Hasselblad 503CW, the Mamiya 645 AFD II or the Mamiya 7.
Which one would be a wiser choice? I have heard nothing beats the quality of Hasselblad cameras so I'm aiming more towards the Hasselblad and more specifically, either one of those two cameras that i mentioned in my first post.
