I thought all those who have provided me with good advice for this problem would like to know the final outcome! A new mirror box was needed apparently.
Thank you every one for your help, regards, Mike.

Marcus now back with the camera! Answering your questions. Yes the problem persists in all modes, and with the differing Canon focusing screens. These screens appear to be fitting snugly as usual. The view through the VF is down and not bright, eeen in sunlight, and I am more aware of the matte finish of the focussing screen. The camera does not have enough EV correction at max ISO to bring the needle towards the centre.
I do believe the sensor is obstructed in some way but my cleaning methods are not achieving anything!
I think the camera is due a trip to Canon? Presumambly the can get to the root of the problem and, hopefully not charge too much.
Thank you for everyones advice - I have very much appreciated it.
regards
Many thanks. I am away from my camera for a couple of days. Will do as you suggest and get back with results. Mike

Yes Peter I have! In fact I tried all three; whilst there is a variation none really improve the situation. Best analogy I can use is that it like using a x10 ND filter! My puzzle is why does it work in Live View - I assume that a different light sensor comes into play.

Thanks, I was aware of that and was using the eye piece in the normal way. I can view ok from there and the DOF button works.

When taking photos with any of my lenses (Canon or Tamron) using the eyepiece and shooting in manual/auto the exposure is wayout all of a sudden; e.g. 2mins in liue of1/250th! Using Live View there is no problem.
This problem occured, I think, after I changed the focussing screen; something I have done numerous times before.

Trying to solve the problem I have factory reset, taken battery and card out for 20 minutes plus etc. What am I overlooking? I believe the problem may be with the eyepiece light sensor? but I don't know how to check this further. Send it to Canon for a service?

Your advice and suggestions on how I may fix this problem would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, have a serious look at DxO Optics Pro. I prefer it to LR.
