My $0.02 worth...you'll want the mirror lock-up for exposing solar system objects like the planets, where the exposure time is too short to measure by hand and short enough where vibration from the mirror flipping up WILL affect the image. In deep sky astrophotography, where you are exposing for many minutes or even hours, you can cover the lens while the mirror flips up when the shutter is released and then remove the cover to complete the exposure.
