  1. This is my 3 1/2 week old daughter, Molly-Rose. I took this last

week and while she may have a face only a mummy could love, I just

don't know anyone who could deny those eyes!

This was taken with Kodak TCN-400 film, with my Pentax 70-210mm lens

set at 70mm and on macro focusing. I think the exposure was

    something like f4 @ 1/90th. I used natural light from a window. I

just love this shot, and even though that is the mummy me speaking, I

do think that it has technical merits as well. I'd love to hear your

    thoughts...

Self Portrait taken while 24 weeks pregnant (last week)! Natural

light (window to the right, reflector to the front/left), Kodak

    TCN400film, Self-timer, Pentax PZ-20, Pentax 70-210mm macro lens - I

    think exposure was approx. 1/60th @ f4.

  2. Thankyou Pete for taking the time to comment on my image. I have noticed that positivity that you seem to convey through all of the comments you leave - even when giving advice or criticisms. It is lovely to see this - there are too many negative, almost vindictive people out there who are all to fast to crush a photographer's confidence without so much as a reason why. We need more people like you on photo.net and I just felt that I needed to tell you this. PS I also shoot rodeos and your work is great!
  3. Michelle, thankyou for your lovely comments, all encouragements are most appreciated.

Dan, generally, I tend to only take candid shots of children and as such I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. This little girl just had the most piercing blue eyes and every image of her displayed a distinctly different mood. I decided to post this one to add a little variety to my folder. Thankyou for taking the time to comment. It is most appreciated. I rarely come to the site and find any comments on my images, so this was a lovely surprise. I have posted another shot above, from the same sitting, that you may find more appealing...

Charles, thankyou for taking the time to leave a comment. While I don't agree with your view, I certainly understand where you are coming from. Originally, I wanted to have both knees up but the chair was too small. The purpose of the knees was more about including the fabric that I had draped over them as I knew the colour would photograph well - especially when combined with the little clips in her hair and her makeup etc. Thankyou again for your comment and rating. 8-)

Debbi, thankyou also for your comment. It is rare for me to receive comments on my images and even rarer to get 52 ratings! I guess this image appeals to a more general public. As I am also the makeup artist/stylist for all of my photography, I do appreciate comments such as yours which refer to lighting/colouring etc. Would you like to know how I got her to laugh so naturally? I told her to imagine her mum getting out of the shower! It always works with teenagers! (hope she doesn't read this). Thankyou again! 8-) - Tanya.

  4. I have posted the original version of this photo in the same folder, so that you may see just how much I really did manipulate it. You will notice that my original idea was for a high key look, but I changed my mind when I started experimenting with levels and curves and the result was what you see above. Thanks again. Dave, which flower pic? They are all simply fantastic. Your lenses must be incredible, and your eye for unusual compostion is really uniqu - especially where flower photography is conerned.

    Best regards.

  5. One of my first attempts at doing something other than fixing

dust/blemishes/colourcasts in Photoshop. All polite and constructive

comments/criticisms greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.... 8-)

  6. Ken, I wouldn't say that I am "partial" to available light shots as such, just that I am forced to shoot them due to a tight budget and pretty crappy equipment! However, I guess patience is a virtue, and hopefully in the long run, having only the basics to work with (ie. one camera, two lenses and my own imagination and creativity), will be of benefit in teaching me the art of manipulating my camera settings and the light I have available,in an attempt to achieve something at least a little similar to what I envisage. I might learn a lesson or two about patience as well...something that my family would be most appreciative of!

Thankyou again so much for taking the time to comment.

  7. I am so thankful that you would take the time to offer such encouraging comments to me! I will be studying photography at Uni. next year, so this year is a warm up really, and yes, I intend to break all the rules...and hopefully make most of them work!! :) I really want to become known for making shots that have something a little "different" about them. Thanks again. :)
