    Smoke Break

          3

This is the image as it came out of the camera, cropped and inverted

in Paint Shop Pro. I have a few versions of this that I've cleaned

up via the usual tools (levels, unsharp mask, channel mixer, more

cropping, etc.) but I'm curious what everyone else would suggest.

These are my 9 favorites from a series of 100 milkdrop splashes, each

5 milliseconds delayed from the previous.

I think the picture came out a little bit lacking in contrast, and

I'm not entire happy with the specular reflections from the flash

unit. Other than those flaws, what else do y'all see?

I used homebuilt equipment similar to the equipment outlined at

    http://www.hiviz.com/tools/triggers/makeown.htm and

    http://www.rit.edu/~andpph/text-flying-bird.html.

I'm looking for advice on what I should fix the next time I shoot

this series. I will try to get more power from the flash unit to

help with contrast, and I will use a diffuser to eliminate the

specular highlights, but... what else should I try to improve?

Thanks in advance for the critiques,

  1. This photo looks A LOT like one at Bike Magazine's site (follow the link).

Any comments on the similarty? The bike and some details (e.g. the shoelace on the right shoe) are indentical, but the jersey color and photographer's name are different on this picture.

I'm not trying to sound accusatory here, but the similarities between the two pictures are enough to make me say "hmmmmm"...

I rarely comment on pictures, but I can't help myself this time: This is a wonderful picture! I've been looking at it for five minutes now and I'm still fascinated.
