  1. Yes, I probably am completely misinformed. I haven't done my usual research on the G2, but I will! Thank you for giving positive feedback on the G2 autofocus. The photos I have seen taken with the G2 are really very good (as are those taken with the Mamiya 6).
  2. I want to purchase a rangefinder camera. I had originally considered

    the Mamiya 6 because I prefer 6x6 format. However, a friend-of-a-

friend uses a Contax G2 and really loves it. Plus, the G2 is more

affordable, has a few more lenses and has autofocus. I do not

currently own an autofocus camera and thought this might be a big

plus, although I really enjoy my Hasselblad 500C and my Nikon FE. I

don't know anything about the Mamiya 7, except perhaps that it

doesn't have the collapsible lens like the 6 (I like the idea of my

camera getting smaller since I like to take it backpacking.)

Please help me decide!! Will I be disappointed by the G2's apparent

difficulty in correct auto-focusing and small viewfinder??

    Thank you,

    Jennifer

  3. I was considering purchasing a used black Contax G2 when I noticed it

had written on the bottom of the body "Kyocera Japan" and on the

lens "made in Japan." I thought these cameras were made in Germany,

especially with the Zeiss lenses. Am I being duped?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

  4. I have a chrome 250mm Zeiss sonnar lens and when I put it on my 500C

and look through the viewfinder, I see that the top ~10% of the image

is "blacked out". Is this normal? I tried the lens on a colleague's

500CM and the same thing happened. Then, we tried his newer 150mm on

my camera and, again the same thing, although less. It doesn't happen

at all with the 80mm lens.

  5. I need to buy a lens cap for the lens on my Hasselblad (it is a Carl

Zeiss 80mm planar lens, aluminum color). How do I know if this lens

takes a "Bay 50" cap or a "Bay 60" cap? I measured the diameter of

the opening where the cap goes and it is 60mm across (outside edge to

    outside edge).

  6. Thanks to everyone for your help. I found someone in my office building who has a Hassleblad A12 back and we put it on my camera and it worked fine. I had a local repair guy look at the back from my camera and he thinks it is just gummed up old lubricant and nothing major. Thank goodness! He said the camera was in great shape otherwise.
  7. Thank you for all the great responses to my previous post. I'll

explain what I did and what is happening now. I took off the back and

was able to wind the knob on the body which lowered the mirror, ready

for another shot. I put the back on again, removed the slide and

tried to press the shutter release, but it wouldn't go in - as if

something were locked. I have the time-catch set to "O", both signals

read "white". I even took out the film in case I had loaded it badly.

When I remove the back, all seems to work fine. As soon as I put the

back on again, I cannot press the shutter release (slide _is_

    removed).

  8. Thanks for the replies so far... I mentioned above that neither signal turned red, so both are white right now and I don't think this is the normal mode. When I take the back off (slide in place) I can wind the film - no problem. I pressed the shutter release with the back off and I heard a click and the signal on the body turned red. (Film back still has white). I turned the big knob on the body (with back still off) and the signal went back to white. Is it ok to put the back on now?

I can't figure out why the signal didn't turn red the first time I pressed the shutter release with the back on, slide removed, everything ready to go. I tried pressing the shutter release again at that time and it did nothing.

  9. I am learning to use my new (used) Hassleblad 500C. Everything seems

to be in order, according to an online manual I read. I loaded the

film, I think properly, then took a picture and it seemed to work -

the mirror came up, I heard a click. However, neither of the signals

(on the body and back) turned red and now the frame won't advance.

The mirror is in the up position and the knob won't turn. Any quick

    thoughts or obvious suggestions?

    Thanks, Jennifer

  10. I just acquired a used Hassleblad 500C (1971 with user-changeable

screen). I am learning how to use it (without a manual!) and I am

trying to look it over and see if it is in good shape. I looked in

the lens while the shutter was closed and noticed that one of the

leaves in the shutter, namely the one on top, has a slight and very

small bend in the tip. Is this normal? Will it cause problems?

I have another question, but will ask in another post...

    Thanks,

    Jennifer
