1.
Hello!
I have to take some pictures of a baby of about 3-4 months old. The equipment i have is nikon D3100, 18-55mm and 55-300mm lens and a auxilary flash unit (sunpack). Though, I am not new to photography, I have never taken pictures of babies. my specific question is:

What lens should I use: the 55-300mm set to near 80mm of the 18-55mm?

Should I use flash or boot ISO because I think it is not good to through the flash light directly towards the eye of the baby (unless I bounce)

the the most important is what should I do if the baby does not look at the lens at all. We both are new to each other. of course I will be shooting at the home and the parents of the baby will be present there. but I fear the baby may feel disturbed by the camera and the and the new man (me) and reject me. In that case the whole effort will be spoiled.

If somebody can advice me on these issues, it will be a great help to me.

Thanks
2.
Hello!
I want to shoot a football game to be played this Wednesday. I have a nikon D3100 with 18-55 mm and 55-300mm lens and a tripod (but no experience of shooting any game). The game will be played on afternoon/noon. I specifically want to know issues like:

What focal length is best.

Whether manual or auto focus? (the 55-300mm lens has quite slow autofocus.)

Whether wide open the lens or not?

Any advice is well come.
Thanks
3.
First, I apologies that I have wrongly mentioned D100. Actually it is D3100 indeed. (The numeric key 3 on my keyboard has a problem and I overlooked it.) I'm really sorry for it.

No! I shoot in RAW and convered in jpg in LR.
Form your discussion, I found that the problem is lack of sharpness rather focusing.

 4.
Hello again!
I am using my Nikon D100 for about a year and now I notice that most of the pictures lacks sharpness and focusing problem. I shot using Nikon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. All the pictures are taken in AF mode and the focus point is at the centre. But when I zoom 100%, I find the focus point is out of focus. Here is some sample pictures. Please tell me whether the lens or me that makes the fault.
Thanks.

You can't print a RAW file because it isn't an image - it's just digital data...ones and zeros.

D.B.! I don't agree with you. Most of the modern software, that is capable of opening a raw file, have a "Print" option in the file menu. Just attach a printer to the computer and select this option; the software will print the picture fine. But we generally print jpg s because they are portable. By portable, I mean that most of the modern s/w that can open an image file, can open a jpg file too. And it is also accepted by all platforms of computer system. Actually, JPG file is standerdised. But, if we take a raw file to a studio who offers print service, then they may not have the appropriate s/w to open the raw file; or even if they have, they may charge extra. But definitely, the raw file can be printed.
The second thing is "EVERY COMPUTER FILE IS SOME KIND OF DATA FILE - DEFINED IN TERMS OF 0 AND 1". There is no distinction like a DATA file and (for example) IMAGE file.

Best regards..........

 6.
Nancy,
If you are talking about the file size then probably you are saving the file in JPG/JPEG format. The RAW format stores much data about the picture taken than the jpg format like EV, White balance/color temp etc which gets merged in the jpg format and thus loses some data. Also, in JPG format, each pixel (each picture point for simplicity) is defined by 8 bit where as in raw, each pixel is defined defined by 16 bit data. So when you save a RAW file into JPG then automatically the file size reduces. Again. there are various compression level in JPG file format which reduces file size (sometimes loses some data). For a comparison on raw file format and JPG, you may follow wikipedia in this link "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAW_file_format".

 7.
Hi! I have a Nikon D3100 with Kit lens and a Nikkor 55-300mm lens and I have managed some silica jell too. But I cannot decide how should I use the jell to protect the system from fungus because the jell is in packet. Should I keep the packets with the body and lens or something else. Thanks for any suggestion.....

 8.
I use Nikon D3100. It is nice and works fine. (I have never used canon and I have no idea of that.). But the best way to choose is to go to a store and test by hand and see which one you feel best, because both are more or less same.
As you told you are new to photography. And from your interest, I will suggest you that the kit lens that comes with the camera will suffice for the next few months (may be one year or so. Actually I also had this type of problem: which lens? which camera? wide angle? tele? etc. But as I grew experience I can now decide what gear to use. And I hope you also will grow tat experience).
So get your camera and happy shooting.

 9.
It is often discusses that the FX and DX formats (in Nikon terms) have a factor of 1.5. Suppose we have an FX body with FX format lens and another DX body with DX lens. Now if we set the focal length of the two lens to the same value (say, 50mm) and shoot from the same location, will they capture the same frame or that on the FX body will be wider?

My second question is: If we attach a FX lens on a DX body then will the camera notice this and record the effective focal length into the pic. information? (i don't have an FX lens; so I can't experiment it).

Thanks and regards...........

 10.
Hi!
I have a Nikon D3100 with 18-55mm lens kit. I want to buy a telephoto-zoom lens for general purpose use and for that I have chosen the Nikkor 55-300mm AF lens. But before I buy, I want to know any experts comment/advice regarding this lens. Also if there is any other lens (of some other focal length or other make) that may suit the General Purpose Use, please inform me with detail performance critique.

I think I can make you understand my query.

Thanks

 11.
Here is a sample picture. It is taken under these settings:

Shutter Speed: 1/30

F-Number:14

Exposure Program: Aperture Priority

Metering Mode: Matrix

Focal Length: 22

Flash: No

Noise Reduction: On

I have tried almost all combination of ADL, Noise Reduction etc. but the result is same.

00YpoP-365661584.JPG.92a7daaec9b2fdcae9a484ec80ade43c.JPG
