My 50 1.8D and AI 50 F2 are pretty equal at 5.6 on my D800. Both crazy sharp. The 50 f2 for me is one of those sleeper lenses.
Some years ago I compared 50/2Ai, 50/1.8AiS and 50/1.8AF on D700.
50/2 obviously the best, from fully open. Sharpeness at edges incomparable.

>Once I learned focus of 1.11 is on AF-P lenses (which I do not own) I discontinued update.
I always strongly suspect that there are hidden updates.

Have 50/2 Ai, 50/1.8 AiS and 50/1.8 AF.
50/2 best of all, from fully open, obviously, by large margin.
Tested on D700.

The DP-1(F2 Photomic) and DP-11(F2A) are the most common in my experience and are effectively the same.... They use a large carbon ring resistor that's often dirty and can lead to jumpy or erratic meter readings ...
DP-11 doesn't use carbon ring resistor. It is wire cladded resistor, so no problems with erratic meter readings.

... especially because there are always undocumented (secret) improvements.

> Nikon, hidden somewhere on their site, have a blanket statement that all their DSLRs can withstand up
> to 250 volts on both the hotshoe and P-C socket firing
Well, is it safe to use flash with 230v?
It looks to me there is narrow margine, so not to experiment on D800?

Have 50/1.8 Ai-S, 50/2.0Ai and AF50/1.8.
50/2.0 best of all three, by large margine, even from largest opening.
(all compared on D700)

Try one litium CR-1/3N battery (3v), which is replacement for 2x1.5v you are using. It looks that one of yours new batteries is not much new.

Yes, you are lucky, but in updates there are always some hidden fixes.

I have tried 6 examples on D700 and every one was excellent below 50mm, but over 70mm
there was noticable unsharpness toward the right side of the image bellow f11.
Anyone with similar experience?

Besides this problem excelent lens.

Yes, that is very funny explanation from Nikon.
Only for naive persons.

Do Nikon update the firmware when you send in your camera for repair?
