1.
I got $2900 for mine. Figured it would be worse after the D4 comes out. At 55, I bet there were functions I never knew the D3 had. I do somewhat prefer the simpler nature of the D5100. I wish it had a focus drive for my lenses needing such.

 2.
Selling off some equipment, and as the D3 is on the way to being replaced by the D4, I decided to sell my D3 now while they are still commanding as much as they are.
I have no intention of getting a D4, slowing down on photography. Recently purchased a D5100 and it is a fun little camera.
I have also sold a dozen or so lenses, trying to shift from a photo storeroom, to a average size Pelican case.
Is there life after a D3, or should I take up knitting?

Maybe I will look at a D800 to take advantage of my FX lenses, but I rather doubt it. We will see.

What am I going to use the D3 funds on, if not another camera body?

Purchased a 30 foot sailboat, and I figure if I see anything memorable, they will sell postcards in the gift shops. For any thing else, my new Pelican kit (including video) is well covered, in a waterproof case.

 3.
I don't see the excitement over a consumer level lens that is f/4? Is this for the people that do not want to spend the money on an f/2.8? Good used Nikkor 70-200mm VR can be found on eBay for around a grand. I would rather have a new looking lens from a premium line that was well cared for, that gives me f/2.8 for the same money.

 4.
Japan is in a mess just now. Radiation beyond imaginable levels, rolling blackouts, questionable food and fresh drinking water.

It will be some time before things are back to business as usual in Japan.

We need to give them time to get back on their feet. Don't be in a big hurry to replace the D3 & D300 for the new models, that are not going to show for some time.

 5.
Rodney King was correct about one thing, try to get along with everyone. You have three images you like. Great, move on. Next time, you know better what questions to ask, and better what to expect. Photography is an art, and for you to be critical of her art, is only fair on your side of the coin.

Watch an old rerun of Kung Fu, and notice the star does very little kicking, and quite a bit of walking.

This thread is too long to read every post, but I did not see any images posted. Post an offending image you dislike, and one you like.

 6.
I have a blast with my Nikkor Mirrors. There is a big difference between them and later knock offs like Vivitar. Mind you, these are manual focus lenses, but that is part of the fun and the charm. Like bow hunting, rather than using a shotgun. eBay always has some Nikkor 500mm reflex lenses for about $250 and up. If you get a nice clean copy that looks / acts new, I would most certainly categorize that as a grail. The 1000mm versions are really fun. You can do anything you want with the background in PP, so you need not be troubled by circles if you want to ex-nay them.

 7.
I am glad to see your question was real, I may owe someone five bucks over this.

At two posts, I will accept your question as earnest.

A lens is like a pair of jeans. One size does not fit all. The 60mm lens is good, the 105mm lens is recognized as a little better by some.

The lens is only a tool. A tool in the proper hands is where the wonder takes place.

It is interesting to note EVERY lens manufacturer calls it Macro, to my knowledge, EXCEPT Nikon, that calls it Micro.
