Absolutely amazing color combination, subject composition and level of detail. Dare I suggest blacking out the remainder of the background as I feel those colors detract from the impact of the lower region. This is a beautiful work Bela-R

Phil, thank you for your comments. -R

Phil, other than it looks as though the bird is savoring the moment, a majority of my impressions have already been mentioned by others. I just want to add that this is an example of a fine, well balanced image. Love the background bokeh texture and tone as well. Kudos-R

Many of the shots from this day involved clipped wings/tails, allowing
me to explore alternative cropping solutions.

Alf: So good to hear from you and as always, your thoughts are appreciated. It's amazing what a little bit of low angle light can do to a scene, almost magical. Many of the shots from this day ended up with clipped wings/tails etc. This was only my second attempt at working with Terns (the first outing yielded standard sky shots) and I look forward to going back soon.
Looking through some of your recent work, all I can say is Wow! Anyone who loves beautiful light and rich coastal landscapes should visit your page.

Forsythe Reserve October 1st, 2012. Most of the afternoon was
overcast, but late in the day the light broke through for a brief
spell. Cloning out the feet might help. Thanks for stopping by,

Thank you Clint, appreciated. The eyes on these birds have been a real challenge thus far-most of the time they're nothing more than a black hole, even in brighter light. Even strobe has proven ineffective due to the high shutter speeds and F-stop.

A sub-adult Tern at the Forsythe Reserve, Brigantine NJ. Thank you for

Along the leading edge of the far wing, there is color fringing. This is a fairly common occurence with high contrast edges (based on personal experience with Canon equipment)- and is somewhat controllable with Canon's DPP software through the use of their color blur tool. Best regards-R

I really like your use of textures and unusual processing, this image in particular is loaded with details and balanced well. Kudos-R

With the local racing scene winding down, I was finally able to find a
little time to get to one of my favorite birding spots. Thanks for
viewing, C&C welcome and appreciated. Enjoy-R

Alf, this is a very nice story shot-I don't believe any amount of technique could improve upon the image you've captured given the conditions under which it was taken. Too many times we get hung up on the technicals of a situation, and miss good shots in the process. That's certainly not the case here. -R

Alf, your comments and insight are helpful, and appreciated. Discepline has trained me to capture the broader view, though I've always been drawn to images that are abstract crops which still tell the story-so I'm always exploring new perspectives.

Nicely done in difficult lighting. Vantage point seems to be from an elevated position-helicopter? Regards-Randall

I really like this work. I feel the fender panel? reflection (left side) adds to the story of the shot, making it stronger. The only distracting element to my eye is the black and yellow reflection on the center cap, removing those (3) would keep the colors and saturations in harmony. Very nicely done!

Excellent capture in a difficult (at best) lighting and environment. Placement of the lights in the background adds to the dramatic effect. Not sure of the original orientation, but to me this screams to be cropped tighter to the airborne fighter in a landscape format. Again, excellent capture and clarity.

On another visit to Forsythe, the sky turned heavy overcast for 90% of
the day, but the birds were plentiful. Not as much background
separation as I'd prefer, but that's what happens at F5.6.
