Was any color enhancing done?

thank you for all the great comments!
This was a whaler's grave - but not Shackleton's. He's actually buried on South Georgia Island.

Gosh, I had not thought of the Linux connection - there's a humorous caption for this picture that will have to come to mind eventually!
-
I've been playing with cropping this one. This original makes the peak somewhat remote and even lonely - which actually captures the reality. But cropping in does emphasize the strange glaring light a little better.

Stunning.

Thanks. You're both right about the shore line. Back to Photoshop with a little correction.

This photo with the people was recently used in a travel brochure. The people give a little context to the scene, where this penguin just strolled by unconcerned about this group taking a rest.

As one not familiar with this area, I think the shot is nicely composed and lighted well, despite being mid-morning or mid-afternoon. The intensity is on the right wall, with shaddowed ridges on the left and in the background with highlights, providing wonderful and varied texture. If this is a cookie - cutter shot as a couple of comments suggest, I'd love to see other photos with better lighting, etc. I, for one, think this is a beautiful photograph.

Thanks, I'll experiment.

The original is much sharper - added a little PS USM though. This lost detail and sharpness in the compression for this site, especially since the bird only occupies about 1/5 of the frame.
The little yellow feathers were blowing in the wind, so they are not sharp even on the original.

I have debated whether to lighten this up a bit. The natural tendency of thee D100 to underexpose was left in place here. Lightening causes a slight loss of drama, but is perhaps more realistic. I'll experiment.

Thanks! When we anchored here, we could only see the end of the glacier at first. The mountain was a surprise when the fog started lifting.

Good points - how did I miss that tilted horizon? (In reality, this little berg did seem lost in the dark sea and sky - it was strange.)

It gives that sense, but it is inhabited by Pueblo American Indians and can at times show a good deal of activity. This photo was taken in the early morning after a snowfall on an unusually cold and windy day in April. Despite the number of residents, the place appeared deserterd. I was even the only visitor (well, tourist) there for several hours. The cold worked to my advantage!

This photograph gives a great sense of place, although a bit chilling! Great use of perspective.

The Masaii are fascinating subjects, and this close-up is great. I would be interested in your comments on 2 that I have posted, one of which is also a closeup.

One of a series of shots of the Masaii, taken at remote Lake Natron
in Tanzania. Help with taking candid shots like this encouraged.

I like the subtle use of color in your other photographs. Would have preferred that on this one, which is a wonderful shot.

The blowout in the horizon turned this very good photo into a great photo. Stunning.

Fascinating photo from a simple subject.
