  1. Go ahead and just shoot !

Fast black and white film is just great.

You don't have to worry about colour casts, and fast film generally has a good exposure latitude.

You will of course be able to use a small aperture for greater depth of field and a fast shutter speed for stopping movement and reducing camera shake.

It's great for flying birds for instance.

As a press photographer I use Tri-X for many years, and loved it.

Obviously it's much grainier than, say 100ASA film, but it depends what you use it for, and anyway, you got it for free, so enjoy it !

  2. Having one constructed a home made window mount, I much prefer a bean bag, as I found the narrow window pane to be much less sturdy. Also even with the window wound down as much as possible, the camera was too high for comfort, especially when shooting down on low or closeup subjects.

A bean bag makes a good wide base.

Just one thing: don't let it get wet. Ever see the beans sprouting a few days later ? Makes an interesting picture if nothing else !

  3. Hi,

I live in Ireland, and use Fuji Sensia slide film all the time. The extra 100 ASA speed compensates for the often dull and overcast conditions. It isn't too bright and contrasty, and serves me well with long telephotos on birds in particular.

Enjoy your trip. Galway is a lovely part of the country.
