You make some very valid observations. I actually did slim the arms in post-processing (Photoshop), but another version of the pose might have done the same thing for the subject. This was actually one of over a dozen poses with this bride, and is the one she chose for her final portrait.  The red shoes were very important to her, and all the girls in her bridal party wore them for the wedding ceremony.  The setting for this portrait was actually our state capital building here in Columbia, South Carolina, which was at the time of the portrait open to the public on Saturdays.  I was allowed to take my lighting equipment into the building, and we worked around other visitors who were touring the State House at the time.
