1.
Hello everyone! Another happy Wednesday to all.. My contribution this week is a bird shot which I took through my window. I dont know exactly what it is but it may be a Black-billed Koel (Eudynamys Melanorhynchus). I am not sure. Can someone please help? :-)

00aZhQ-479317684.jpg.24545682e72f20f3a0f5b09c9efbaff8.jpg

  2.
Hi Carl, I also have a D3100 and that 35mm prime. It's my only prime at the moment and I can tell you honestly that it is a jewel for its price! But it has a little flare problem that can be avoided by choosing different shooting angle. The 6 diaphragm diesign makes its bokeh almost circular when opened wide and it looks nice (to me, at least). Jose is absolutely right about the fact "The 35 is a "standard" look, all-round lens for DX, still a bit "longuish" indoors, far from wide angle" If you are sitting at a restaurant then you will be able to capture up to 2-3 people with that 35. But if you want individual shot then 50 is the choice. This all depends whether you dont want to leave your chair. LOL.

  3.
A great Wednesday everyone! As usual many good photos already. My favorites so far:
Bashar Alshabi
Jeff Lipsman
Jana Hughes
Tony Hadley
Steve Belden
Bogdan Nicolescu
Here's mine for this week. Was at Kolkata Book Fair held every winter here at Kolkata, India. It's a bokeh shot using 35mm f/1.8 AF-S DX. Hope to see many more great shots today. The day has just begun !!

00Zwxx-438189584.jpg.902b8d884ca28c13781184b1d893f5c1.jpg

  4.
A local street vendor or Hawker in front of Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. They are very common in these parts of South-East Asia. Their daily life is no doubt tough. And in scorching heat of India they go around from places to places. This particular man was having a rest in front of one of the pillars of the main gate at around 3pm in the afternoon. Good day all. Keep exposing...

00ZOPd-401971684.jpg.f964ba6732e3ac6a14c781b36c9f6f4f.jpg

  5. Happy Wednesday again!! Matt... a superb dog picture! What a start!

Bill... that's a beautiful painting like photograph! Wonderful!

Lorne... amazing detail of that owl and great moment!

This is one of the Patton Tanks captured from the Pakistan army during 1975 war. It was a present given to the State of West Bengal by the All Ranks of Eastern Command. Since this tank has a historical importance, the state preserves this very well in a vast ground, which is a beautiful spot in Kolkata.
00ZILn-396199784.jpg.9359bc77022d8cc8874651375e49388e.jpg

My picture this week is almost one month old. He's a local boy at Jagannath Ghaat, Howrah Bridge, Kolkata. He was very excited about getting photographed so I told him to sit beside me at the steps and then I took this. Hope you all like it... Take care! Happy clicking!!

00YvkA-372089584.jpg.369765bbdd7a8ee2b96484dc97f74d83.jpg

My contribution this week is a test shot I took with my new 35mm f/1.8 prime which i acquired 3 weeks back from Amazon... the tiny depth of field at f/1.8 is truly amazing! I am loving it totally!

  10.
Hello everyone... Good morning to you all!!... My contribution this week is of a place called Princep Ghaat in Kolkata, India. I went there on an afternoon to take sunset photos and this is what came out! Cheers..

00YRNT-341423584.JPG.88d3398f648cc292f6168e6315d55615.JPG

  11.
A happy Wednesday to all Nikonians out there! And also a special message to the people in Sendai, Japan. Hope they are doing well. We are all praying for you..
My favorites this week are:
Tom Howd
Ray House
Hamish Gray
John Farrar
Mark Parks
Doug Santo
Keith Jackson
Robert Wayt
My contribution this week is an old sunrise photo I took on last December in the forest of North Eastern India.

  12.
@Eric... Thanks for your detailed explanations! they're of great help! If needed I can learn to use manual focus all the time if I need to use that 50mm/1.8 finally for its 1.8 value... I hope using manual focus is not that tough (from my limited experience :-)

@Leslie... I am a boy...lol..
Finally I think I will go for sigma 17-50/2.8 EX OS HSM...and later add that 50/1.8

  13.
@Wouter... Yes I occasionally miss an extra bit of reach with my kit lens...for example last Sunday I went to my school's reunion party and there was a local folk dance. Now I zoomed all the way in on the dancers with maximum aperture but still wasn't able to capture the fast movements of them, you know, those "freez the motion" kind of shots. And fast shutter speed gave dark pictures. I thought may be a lens with f/2.8 could have done better. I may be wrong... the flash was giving a whitish look.
@Jim... Yes I read reviews here that a combination of 2 lenses (a wide angle and another telephoto) gives better results than a lens which covers a lot (like say Tamron 18-200).
@Elliot... my kit lens gives me excellent wide angle pictures when shooting landscapes. The thing is for distant people or objects I miss extra reach and a fast aperture... Thats why I was thinking to upgrade. The kit lens is good.

  14.
Hello everybody, I am new to DSLR photography. Bought my D3100 on October last year. And since then never liked shooting with a point & shoot! Though the kit lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR is not bad... I surely need to upgrade to a better glass. I came accross 2 Sigma lenses: 17-70mm f/2.8-4 and 18-50mm f/2.8 as the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G was a little too much for me right now. Now I am confused whether having f/2.8 at long end is better or that extra reach in 17-70 is the one I should go for. I mean at long end what much difference will be there between an f/4 and an f/2.8? Please advise. Many thanks in advance guys!... Happy clicking!
