The 100mm macro is very sharp. Excellent for portraits. If the 135 is a stretch, stick with the 5d2 and 100. You can always
upgrade later if you find it lacking. Which you won't.

Why are so many concerned about Canon EOS 5D Mark III versus Nikon D800

Er, because you are on a gear forum and these are the hottest new pieces of gear?

Also, I'd recommend using ai servo, with the center point selected (on the 5d). One shot will not work very well with fast moving subjects. Also, the center point is way more accurate than the outer points. If you need to recompose a shot, crop during post processing.

The 5d (mark i) is almost 2x better at low light than the t3i. Here is the comparison from dxomark.com: http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-cameras-side-by-side/(appareil1)/692|0/(brand)/Canon/(appareil2)/176|0/(brand2)/Canon
I suspect you'll be using the 135L if the light is bad, and the 70-200 if not.

I had the Tamron 28-75. Wide open, its pretty soft in the corners. Traded it in for a 24-70L. Online comparison here: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=366&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=0&API=0&LensComp=101&CameraComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0

So far my favourite has to be Jeff Palmucci's B&W, very nice lighting, you'll have to let us know how you did on the assignment

Thanks for the kind words. Not a school assignment, but from dailyshoot.com. A fun little exercise if you have the time.

Another reason to choose the 24-70 over the 24-105. Plausible deniability.

Another problem with using ND filters: When you are just walk around shooting, it'll a pain to keep removing and adding for different lighting conditions.

-

Because I like to be able to shoot wider apertures, even in daylight. I do use a 580, so maybe I just haven't noticed a power issue (with fill). However, I don't remember ever having a power issue with my 430 either.

Don't go third party for outdoor flash in bright sunlight unless you are sure the flash supports high speed sync. I don't think many do. Very important feature, IMHO.

Had the sigma non os. Sold it and got the canon 2.8 mark ii for the is. Love the is, but I was also shocked at the
difference in sharpness. The canon is amazing and worth every cent.
Btw, I have the sigma 85, so I don't buy L glass just for the red ring. However, this one is worth it.
