1.
Almost all of my lens have dust to some degree I know that isnt a problem. These are actual grains of either dirt or sand and they are clearly visable in the first 3 elements. doing the flashlight test I dont see any scratches and when i hold the lens to a light table wide open the grains aren't visable at either end. I'm wondering if he dropped it face down in the sand blew it out with a compressor but 7 grains stayed in there and worked their way down into the elements but I dont feel any grit in the focusing ring when I put it to manual and twist it. I know when you set focus to infinty there is a slight clearance for things to go in.

  2.
I got my brand new D700 for $2100. USD plux tax about 4 months ago locally(came out to $2250 with tax). I see that amazon.com has recently lowered their D700's from $2400. USD to $2349. USD so I saved $100. As for if the Merchant is being honest I have no clue just look around for the best price.

  3.
I have a chance to buy a 80-200mm ED 2.8D lens for $600 but it has visable specs the size of sand on the first 3 elements. The seller tells me this can be cleaned for around $100. I called the local auth repair shop and they tell me I have to bring the lens in and leave it overnight for estimate. I read somewhere that dust doesn't affect optical quality and I know this to be true for tiny specs of dust, I dont know about sand. The lens looks mint aside from the 7 specs of sand.

  4. I have the budget to purchase either the alien bee's Abr800 ring flash with the moonunit, or the whitelightening x1600 with the white

beauty dish. The cost is almost the same, could you seasoned lighting pros please explain the benefits and differences of each? I shoot mostly model

portraits and artistic nudes using a full frame dslr if that matters.

  5. My first sb-600 failed on me after 6 flashes. I didn't use it until after the 14 day warranty from best buy had expired, I

called nikon customer service who informed me that the serial number on the flash was already registered to another

person. I took it back to best buy and after a 2 hour ordeal got a new one. It's has been working quite nicely in union

with my sb-800 ever since. 11k flashes and counting.

  6. I just bought a new camera. My dx lens were basically obsolete with

fx format so I sold old lens' on cxxxslist and I'm starting fresh. I had

    18-55, 55-200,and 18-105 dx lens. I have around $1100 budget.

John suggested I get the 50mm 1.8 and the 85 mm 1.8 and other

Jon suggested a used 28-70 mm 3.5. I can get all of theses with my

budget. Or should I get a refurbished 85mm 1.4 as

    Anthony suggests ?

  7.
I mainly photograph nude models for half body and fully body portraits using strobes. I Recently got a new camera and I am looking for something sharp and decently fast. I dont have a ton of money and use d700. please tell me why the specific lens is best and any positives or negatives that go along with it.

  8.
This new photographer probably doesn't have overhead, does this part time and makes most of her money at her real job. Reach out to her and see whats she's all about. Their has been a huge decline in traditional portrait photography since the wide spread ownership of digital cameras. You have to adapt and set yourself apart from her in order to compete. Maybe try to lower your costs so you can pass on savings to the customer without affecting your profit margin.

  9.
There is no doubt that I am getting the d700, I could wait my whole life for the next best thing. The main questions I have are should I get used for $1900 without warranty or buy new for $2400 with warranty? and if i bought used can I still send it in for servicing without a reciept or documentation?

  10.
I have a choice to buy a used d700 right now or wait 2 months to save more and get a new one. The used has around 10k actuations and looks to have been well taken care of and will save me around $500. I am a student who doesn't have piles of cash laying around and could use that extra towards a lens. on the other hand, what if something goes bad on the camera a few months after I get it can I send it in even though I'm not the original owner? Any feedback would be appreciated.
